US Airways Says Not Selling Aircraft

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - US Airways (OTC BB:UAIRQ.OB - news) said on Saturday it has no current plans to reduce its fleet of aircraft, disputing postings on the Internet that the bankrupt carrier has put planes up for sale.

"Some individuals intent on spreading rumors and fear have decided to start circulating two-year-old notices from our previous restructuring regarding potential aircraft for sale," Chris Chiames, senior vice president of corporate affairs said in a statement.

Well of the three type they probably want to get rid of the most - 737, 757, and 767 - there are precious few buyers right now.

If they offered the Airbusses, I bet they'd get some hits, but those planes should rightfully stay as the core of their mainline fleet due to their lower age (for the most part).

Of course they have no plans to reduce the fleet, but that is not the real question. The real question is whether the lessors will repossess their birds in November when the 60 day period ends. And that will be a simple question of money. If they can lease them to more solvent companies for more money, they will. If not, they stay with US.
