I'm surprised this has not been posted yet, but today, the new GP Concierge informed us in the Hyatt forum that as of 3/05, PLN and other wholesale rates including Gov't and Travel agent rates will no longer be eligible for earning FFN and stay credit towards elite requalification.
As always, Hyatt has been quite good in broadcasting any changes to its program, or implementation of same, well ahead of the date such changes are to take effect. Hyatt is a class act.
FWIW, Hyatt also has announced officially today that a new round of FFN will commence on 11/1/04 and end on 2/28/05.

That they provided the PLN/opaque benefit as long as they did is to their credit. And that they are giving plenty of notice and giving a "farewell" FFN opportunity to PL/opaque customers reflects highly on HY (ironically, I'm using an FFN earned with two PL stays this very evening).....

Exactly.
So, posters, please, no whining over this change.
Don't like it? Then pay an "eligible rate" and you will get benefits and stay credits.
Hyatt hotels out of your budget? Not so. There are plenty of Hyatts that have low rates -- although they are not the plush palaces that you have grown to enjoy over the past several years.
This move definitely demonstrates that the recession in the lodging industry is over.

However this is such a cyclical business that in the end what goes around comes around and maybe the recession in this industry is receding but there will be another one (recession) and customers don't forget who plays hardball when times are good (for the business).. and when they need your business in a recession.. well you go back and look who has been good to you in tough times as well as good times
This move definitely demonstrates that the recession in the lodging industry is over.

Hyatt's program was (is until March) very generous on this aspect. Essentially if you do lot of hopping on you PL and FFn stays you essentially get free night for every paid night.

I'm a former non-priceline Diamond, who made Platinum this year on only PL stays. Although it's a great benefit that I've used, if I were Hyatt I wouldn't allow PL stays for elite qualification either; it cheapens the program.
