in a few months, my group will be traveling to columbus, oh for a project. as we dont hv a "prefered hotel" in the columbus area yet, i'm scouting for one to be included in the official "prefered hotel" list.
i read a few recommendations for the HI in downtown columbus. however, i'll be about 10 miles north near the intersection of 71/270 and working odd hours, so i'm not sure if i want to drive the 10miles to and from the customer office. i'll keep that in mind tho' ...
in anycase, can someone recommend a hilton property near the intersection of 71/270? i'd rather avoid HS as i stay in 1 all the time in TX, but i'll still take it if thats the best option.
ps. how bad is traffic in and around columbus?

There is a Hilton Garden Inn opening up right around the area you are talking about (Polaris area). I'm fairly certain it will be open by then. Other Hilton properties around the area include a homewood suite (standard HS hotel) and another HGI (decent) around 270/23 (Worthington). This is a nice area as it is close to restaurants/movie theatre and a 5 minute drive to Polaris. The only Hilton in Columbus is in Easton, which is a 10 - 15 minute drive to Polaris, a little pricey for Columbus, but excellent location as Easton is a town center with lots of stores, movie theatre (AMC 30), restaurants, etc. Also, there's an Embassy Suite in Westerville, which is about a 5 - 10 minute drive to Polaris. Never stayed there, but the location is decent.
Traffic during rush hour can be bad, especially the area you are talking about, but nothing more than 20 - 30 minutes.

jayb5, thanks for ur reply!
the thing about the HGI is they always seem to be located in a very noisy area -- usually immediately next to a major highway! would u happen to know which HGI that you mentioned might be in a quieter neighborhood?
we'll be working late, so i doubt we'd want to drive back downtown after an all nighter ...

There is an Embassy Suites right there at 270/71 (at 23/270). That would be the only close HHonors property. I have never stayed there, and it is a very strange building setup for an ES property, fairly old, but I can't imagine it being bad. In that area there are a few other properties not branded with HHonors, if you care to here about them just PM me or post again your interest. Otherwise all of the HHonors properties are going to be a good bit away. The next closest HH properties would be another Embassy Suites, much newer and very nice, in Dublin or the slightly closer Hilton at Easton.. Both are about a 10 minute drive.
Traffic isn't bad in Columbus and apart from the usual slowing at rush HOUR, yes hour as it doesn't last much longer than that, you can get everywhere quickly from that intersection. The ES at 23/270 is in the Crosswoods area. An older area but with a good selection of restaurants ranging from the cheap and quick Panera Bread and Bob Evans to Ruth's Chris for a nice dinner.

I am not sure how far away this is, but I enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites next to the Convention Center. Nice rooms. Wireless Internet. Good evening snacks/drinks from Gordon Biersch.
My stay was a little more than a year ago as well, so this info may be outdated.

I would second vote for Embassy in Dublin. It is right off freeway and is likely less than 10 minutes to 270/71 interchange. Also very close to multiple restaraunts, etc.

FWIW, I also recommend the ES in Dublin -- it's new and in a quiet area with easy access to 270. The new Hilton at Easton is very nice, too (for Columbus :) ). My other choice would be the Sheraton Suites (270/23), but that, of course, is not a Hilton.

Great Hamptom..renovated old building in historic area.....but way too far south of where they are looking
The new HGI close to the location you're working at is in a busy section, so it will be loud. I would've included the Dublin ES in my first post, but thought the other properties were closer as it is about 15-20 minutes away.
I also hear recently that the ES property that cmhua777 was referring to (Westerville) has undergone some major renovations.
I would recommend either the ES in Dublin, HS in Worthington, or Hilton at Easton. The HS and Hilton have some good restaurants and other entertainment nearby.

I have stayed at the Homewood Suites too many nights. It is close to 270 and 71 but not a very exciting place to be. I did not like their breakfasts much either. Oh well.
