HI all. I have 42,000 preferred miles, and I don't travel for business. I really really want to make gold by the end of the year, and I want to do it as cost effectively as possible. Any ideas? I like Florida :)
Also, if you are upgraded to first, do you get the mileage bonus? I did on my past international flights, but not on my last stateside run.

I am in the same boat, so I booked a ticket to Europe for thanksgiving, that may or may not work for you! Generally I think 2 trips to LA at $178 each or one quick trip to London or something would clear out pretty quickly.
You don't get mileage bonuses when you upgrade to first, you just got lucky!

How about doing a quick trip to Europe between say, Christmas and New Year's? Or a trip to Argentina on UA will work. That would be fun.

How about a quick trip down to Florida, combined with a trip to the West Coast. 8000 miles right there, and with the specials I bet you could probably do it all for $300.
Then again, for not much more money, you could be in Europe. DCA-PHL-FCO in December is $385.

If you really are a "LittleFlyer," you may be able to go as someone's checked luggage. Not sure if you'd get boarding passes or miles though.
FCO in December for $385 sounds like a good plan. Is that before or after taxes?
Good luck to ya.

After! CO is $372 with taxes -- my friend was about to book and I convinced him to go on US instead. The $13 more pp is worth the A330 IFE...

I love LGA-CLT-LGW runs. Thats about 9000 miles roundtrip and you can get some great fares if you dont wait until you get into the holidays too much. I think calculating the mileage on that would come out to the same if you went DCA-CLT-LGW. Just dont go to PHL, it is shorter. Well, and it is PHL. It would cost more but you could also do IAD-NRT on UA I think.

LGA-CLT segment gets you more miles than PHL or DCA to CLT but its insignificant (~40 miles).
Even though they're Mon-Thur with a Sat night stay the NYC-LON $170+ fares make it real nice.

I really like the Italy idea...But I think the DCA-LGA-LON is probably more doable. Thanks all! I also planned a trip DCA-PIT-MSY in November just for good measure.
