Flying out to the left coast last week, had a long talk with a 54 year old Flight Attendant. In addition to the usual issues such as salary and benefits, she was concerned about a spreading problem. The size of Flight Attendant bottoms!
She was concerned that with all of the time spent waiting around airports, more nights on the road and less service onboard the airplanes, that the seats seem to be getting smaller, especially those she has to share with other senior members of her profession.
Now I realize that items like this are probably covered in the CBA, but Sassaman, could this be a Workers Comp issue? Might the company be liable for new larger uniforms, gym memberships or spinning classes in order to take care of this growing problem? From my limited observation, there may even be enough width to this condition to consider class action status.
I have not forgotten about the discussion in Philly concerning the size of the Roachfest audience and the possibility of in-seat aerobics. But this is a serious, possibly litigatable issue that might enrich one our members. Solutions, anyone?
