hey everyone- im thinking of booking a flight to europe on usairways in dec for xmas time. i am afraid that if i book it and they stop flying while im over there, i will be stuck there with the possibility that no one will take the usair tix and then ill have to buy a new one way ticket home...for 6 people!
so, i was wondering, is this something i really have to worry about?
and also, what kind of travel insurance programs do people know about, just in case this does happen?
Thanks

We had some of the same concerns you have when planning our week trip to Cancun. (we leave this Saturday) After following all the posts on this board, I would suggest you go for it as we did. Things look pretty safe, at least until the 1st of the year. Beyond that, count me as one of those who believe US will survive, although not in the same form they exist in today.

There is no sense fretting about it, if it makes you uncomfortable and you are going to worry about the status of the airline up until your trip, book it elsewhere.
I'm continuing to book on USairways.

Book it. At the moment, it looks like financing should carry US into next year, possibly as long as February. So, I wouldn't worry, and have also booked tickets on US on December 30th.

several of the online booking engines, for instance Orbitz, offer trip cancellation/interruption insurance just before the payment step. here are typical terms: http://www.etravelprotection.com/orbitz.html
you can also buy the insurance separately after purchasing your tickets.

US currently has funds to continue operation through February, as an earlier poster said. I know that personally on my Discover Platinum, I have travel insurance that covers the event of an airline bankruptcy, etc. (Anyone know the policy on the BOFA Visa?) Check with your own credit card company to see if you have travel insurance. I'm booking flights to the end of January as of now. Look at it this way: the fact that you and 5 other people are booking tickets on US right now is actually increasing the chances of US's survival.

I have an award travel booked to return 1/1/05 and have absolutely no concerns. The recent agreements get them to at least Feb/Mar.
I'm contemplating another award over spring break and am a little more concerned about that one, but still not much.

I just booked 4 tix from east coast to Vail in March... I'm a little worried, but all and all I think we will be fine.

Please read the terms carefully!
Not surprisingly, US Airways is not on the list of airlines for which they provide coverage of financial default.

My December ones are for DEN to Steamboat, so I'll look for somewhere warm in March (Aruba?). With the judge's ruling today, my confort level extended from early March to late 2005.
