"Two foreigners, who were sick, died in separate flights to Nairobi, police said yesterday.

They died while airborne, but their deaths were only discovered after their planes landed a t Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, on Wednesday.

Passengers and flight crew were shocked when the two men failed to wake up from their seats and were confirmed dead moments later.

The plane carrying a Tanzanian, identified by police as Mr Mohammed Yusuf, was the first to arrive at noon. And the other, which was carrying a Burundi citizen, identified as Mr Guy Erick, touched down at 8pm.

Coincidentally, both men were suffering from kidney failure. Their bodies were taken to the City Mortuary.

Police said Mr Yusuf had been taken to a hospital in India and he was returning home after being discharged.

He was accompanied by his wife and brother . Their flight was destined for Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Flight crew called in airport security after he was found dead.

Police said Mr Erick, who was accompanied by his doctor , was travelling in a flight from Bunjumbura.

He was destined for treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi."

"legal" issue - the pax may have passed away inflight, but it is simpler to declare death after landing (death certificate, legal jurisdiction etc). Hard to get a death certificate from a country that you were flying over...or worse - the Indian Ocean.
