Starwood Preferred Guest - Holiday stay in San Diego

Wondering what would be a better stay location for the week after X-mas to New Years in San Diego for family trip, with two kids and wife: Marina or Suites? Gold member only :-(, so no significant perks.

If it is within your budget, you can do no better than the W San Diego. A really top notch hotel and considered by most on this board to be the best Starwood in San Diego.

As for the two hotels you mentioned, I can't help as I've stayed in neither.

There was another thread on "favorite San Diego" Starwood properties which I can remember posting on last month after my last stay there (19 Sept). There were a lot of comments on various locations. My favorite is the W of all the places I've stayed in SAN.

With the darling Mrs. ORDNorth, that would be perfect, with an 8 and 12 year
old? What do you think. That over a Suites type room?

The marina is better than suites because of the location. Even though you get a suite at suites, square foot wise it is about a tie with the marina. If you want to be to be downtown the Westin has a much better location than the suites.

I tried the Westin once a few years ago and thought it was pretty old and tired. The W is much nicer.
