I am booked for two room at the Trianon Palace Versailles No.20th. I have several questions about this property and hoping someone on this board can answer.
1) what are pavillion rooms and are they as I suspect more like rack rooms for tours?
2) are golds given upgrades at this property? I was told there is no club floor or executive floor.
3) What is your Impression of this hotel and
4) I arrive at CDG at 10.30AM Sat.and hope to leave the airport on a train direct to Versailles
. Is this possible or is there an easier way ?

The only one of your questions I can answer is #3--overall impression. I stayed at the Trianon in April and was VERY impressed. As a Platinum, I was given an upgrade to a very nice large corner room with sitting area (though not a suite). Bathroom was ENORMOUS. Proximity to Versailles can't be beat (one block walk to a back entranceway). But above all, the service was incredible, from the very accommodating Front Desk staff (in particular, Helene) to the best concierge I have ever met (Alain Vernier). We felt VERY pampered!!

1) There are two buildings at this property. The "Pavillion" is much more modern and to be honest doesn't have a lot of charm to it. The "Palace" is the original hotel building and is where you check-in. The restaurants, bar, spa and pool are also here. Do everything you can to get moved to the Palace, if possible with a view of the 'real' Palace next door!
2) There is no Club/Executive floor. As for upgrades YMMV as a Gold but it can't hurt to give them a call....
3) Excellent! The location is superb and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you like a pre-breakfast swim you'll probably have the pool to yourself. Be sure to check out the octagonal, marble lined turkish bath! There is a Michelin starred restaurant in the hotel but it was closed when we were there.
4) Sorry, I dunno. Parking is secure and free if you decide to drive.

You'll need to change trains at the St.Michel station, from the RER B to the RER C. Total trip time is about 70 minutes. Versailles Rive Gauche is the nearest stop.
The most convenient alternative would be to go by car/taxi.

Do you have any idea about how much a taxi could cost from the airport to the Trianon?

I booked a taxi at the Trianon (actually it was what the British would call a minicab) for another destination and asked how much it would cost from the Trianon to CDG. I was told it would be about 70 euros.
I have always been very well treated at the Trianon; check-in and concierge staff are great and helpful. Restaurant staff at the Café Trianon or Les Trois Marches as well as the pool and spa staff were also very good.
I've only stayed once at the Pavillon and definitely believe that the price difference between the two buildings is worth it. The rooms on the top floor of the Palace building (excluding the duplex suites :) ) are not high-ceilinged and are somewhat bland. Finally, the indoor swimming pool (20m I think, and 28°C) is one of my favorites.

Thank you all for the good stuff. I have decided to book a Taste of Luxury Deluxe Room here and stay in the main building and hope for one of those corner room upgrades as described in an earlier post. Being a lowly gold I will have my fingers crossed.
We depart Versaille to Beaune in Burgandy on the 23 and hope to take a train. Has anyone had expierience and if so please advise the following:
1) will we have to take a train to Paris first or can we travel Versailles / Beaunne without changing trains?
2) if we have to Go Versailles /Paris/Beaune will we also have to change stations in Paris to get to Beaune or will the train from Versailles to Paris be just a change in the same station to another platform?
3) any other info or ideas (I dont want to rent a car and drive)

If I am not mistaken there only two daily TGV which stop at Beaune, departing Paris Gare de Lyon at 7:14/17:44. Otherwise you'll have to change trains in Dijon, which doesn't affect trip time much, if the connection is good (a little over 2 hours total). Forget the normal train to Beaune, as even the direct takes nearly 4 hours.
BTW, there are no trains from Versailles to Beaune. The RER C will take you from Versailles to across the river from Gare de Lyon in Paris; if you get off at Austerlitz, you'll have to cross the river on foot in a not-pedestrian-friendly area, or you can connect to the subway at Bibliothèque François Mitterand (2 stops to Gare de Lyon).
If you are going to Beaune to visit wineries, you will want some transportation. Beaune proper only has the caves of the major producers, and rather overpriced accomodations, which tend to be full on weekends. Whereas the region is dotted with picturesque villages, good restaurants, pleasant hotels, and of course wineries of all sizes.
