I've all my flights down.. and there is no way I can squeeze in another flight in between...

But I'll be 121 miles short of the 120K required for renewal by the 31st of this month.

Do you think MPC will renew me?

I would've thought with your experience this is one question you'd know the answer much better than most! but Yes is my guess, I've had a few work colleagues who were a few thousand short of the 120k and still managed to requalify - without a need to call MPC to plead any case whatsoever.

I've also known MPC renew silver and gold members who have fallen just short.

Can't you just buy some duty free items on one of the flights? I think it's 2-for-1 miles this month as well for on-board shopping.

How far short? (he says, being currently 1,200 miles short)

He is talking about being 121 Club Miles short of renewing his Diamond membership which can only be obtained by flying one of the oneworld airline flights.

The shortest route I can think of on CX's network is HKG-TPE return but given 121 miles is a very small portion for renewal, I think CX will just renew Guy Betsy's Diamond membership when it comes end of October. However, he can always write to the Marco Polo Club and explain his circumstances as CX is very good with their renewal if such scenarios from what I have been told by my colleagues who utilise CX.

actually I am REALLY suprised GB asked thsi question given his wealth of experience on CX!
But anyway from experience you should be FINE (MY grandmother was 10,000miles short to renewal silver and they actually just renewed it without any questions. she has being a member since 1984!)
I was short by 500miles 2 years ago to make silver and they let me.

The key is to send them an e-mail or fax and let them know before hand. But given your presumed loyalty and past patronage you should be automatically given the membership like my grandmother.

Also remember they do RESET your club miles upon renewal, so you can always argue that you were "Ripped off" in the previous period.

GB, I guess this is when your meeting with Mr. Yim on May 12th would become useful. I don't think it's considered arrogant to just give him a ring/email and ask if there's any "unofficial policy" for such case.

Given your personal connection with Mr. Yim, I don't think it would be a problem... but even so, how difficult is it really to get extra 121 miles? Perhaps just fly F-class on one of the Intra-Asia route? Assuming u would be flying this month, and is booked on Biz already...

i expect the number of diamond members to decrease next year since the SARS membership extension will be over and there are no longer any 2x or 3x miles promotions like there was in the year before that.

Recently, one colleague was about 4k short of silver and still go renewed (unexpectedly I may add). Maybe it was to do with the fact that those 26k was earnt from flying 7-8 regional flights in J and they expect/hope that pattern will continue or increase. Not sure if they would've renewed if it was gained purely from say 2 long haul flights in discounted economy.

Many thanks. I'll probably try to fit in another flight anyway, but it's good to know.

Ignore the thread.

I've decided to fly BKK-HKG to connect with the HKG-YVR flight. That flight will definitely be over the 121 miles short.

Ta!
