I don't normally have check-in luggage so lack experience but on my recent flight back from LAX, I noticed upon collecting my luggage at HKG that my luggage tags (along with a few other bags) had the "First" crossed out and a large B marked on there (I assume to indicate business class). Is this normal procedure coz I've never experienced this on any other long haul flights where I actually had checkin luggage regardless of the class I was actually flying?

Since I rarely have checkin luggage, I don't mind or have any issues with getting priority behind other paid F passengers but I would've preferred just getting a normal J class tag instead rather than a First tag with the "First" crossed out.

That is very strange as all Diamond MPOs should get FIRST priority no matter what class they are travelling in. Therefore it is clearly Inappropriate they did this on you. Maybe they were confused at the outport? and also maybe the ran out of J Class priority stickers and used the F Class one (with the "B" on it). But in any case you shouldn't have being degraded of the status.

Also really 1 piece of luggage, what difference does it make to CX and other F Class pax.

This wasn't the case as I was one of the first people to physically checkin and noticed an ample supply of the J/Priority luggage tags.

Jsut want to know, did you get your bags with the F Class batch or not?

No, one bag came after the F batch and then the other came out with the first Y batch. Was one of the first off the plane but had to wait over 20 mins to collect my two bags. Maybe it was to do with being the first flight to arrive into HKG that morning....

That was unacceptable! You should really complain!

Surely everyone knows the labels are there only for baggage handlers to identify which ones are worth rummaging through..

AFAIK the B does not stand for Business Class but is a mark they make when they have to rearrange baggage in loading containers. On one flight this year we were delayed for 1/2 hour because baggage had to be unloaded for a no-show. Upon arrival, all of the bags I saw coming out (F and J) had strange letters on them, B on one batch, C on the next.
