They're having a $100/night web special. I was hoping to go the Priceline route (Shangri-La, Westin) but am having no luck for a 10 day stay.
Is it close to a BTS station?
Thanks.

I would suggest posting this question in the Luxury Hotels Forum.

Really? I wasn't aware that the Plaza Athenee was anything special.

I was under the impression that most Plaza Athenee properties were considered luxury properties

Here is a map (http://www.hotel-plaza-athenee.com/img/map.jpg) that shows where the hotel is in location to the BTS station. I haven't stayed there but have gone by it many times as I often stay at the Conrad when in Bangkok.
And yes, I agree with Obscure2K that the Plaza Athenee brand is a luxury one.

Business Traveller is a magazine with credible travel information. It had a positive review (http://www.btonline.co.uk/default.asp?page=14&PubID=65&ISS=7311&SID=306840) in 2002 of the Plaza Athenee Bangkok.
PA: it's fine. However, if you call the Conrad and mention you need a 10 day stay and PA asked for 100US/n, Conrad might give you a suite in the better Conrad Residence at the symilar rate ;)!
Anyway, Bangkok arbitrageurs swear by Rembrandt 5* serviced flats who offer way cheaper rate for huge 1B, but I'm not in the market for them, even if the quality is great.
If you try real hard for the Sukhotai, even they might get enticed by a 10 day stay, for just a little more than 100 (esp if you have good corporate rate system). However, their normally advertized room rate is quite higher.

I've heard the Plaza Athenee, though definitely a luxury brand, is nothing special in Bangkok. It is certainly a decent first class hotel but not close to the same league as the Plaza Athenee Paris.
If you want to be close to a BTS station, you might get substantially under $100 at the JW Marriott. Sheraton Grand Sukhimvit will be more than $100 but is great and right next to the BTS. You might snag the Westin for less than $100 also right next to BTS.
Not sure about trying Priceline for 10 day stays. However, they frequently give you the Westin or JW if you bid 5 star Sukhimvit area. Also Interncontinental (formerly Meridien) near Siam Square and just next to a BTS stop.

It is a ~ 5 min walk to the Ploenchit BTS station.
I have not stayed there but walked by it many times.

I avoid walking in the Bangkok heat. 10 baht on a motorcycle taxi (motosai) either to the Conrad or Plaza Athenee. Plenty on the side roads, they wear an orange vest.

I am honestly not so sure which activity is more unhealthy. ;) I do ride motorbike taxis, but I can't say I like doing it. I've seen a couple of nasty dust-ups, with serious injuries. I actually don't mind walking in BKK/SIN/KUL etc., I enjoy seeing the activity of a city and I need the exercise, I just try to stay in the shade.
It is obviously easy to get a motorbike taxi from Ploenchit BTS station to the Plaza Athenee, and they can drive the wrong way down one-way streets, on sidewalks, pretty much anywhere, so it is a quick trip. It might be more challenging to get a motorbike taxi from the Plaza Athenee? I guess the doorman could signal for one?
Hotels on BTS route in that area are : The Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt Erawan, Intercontinental, and JW Marriott. They are easy to get in and out without using expensive limo. You might consider pay a little more for the room and pay less for transporatation plus you get more time. Some days, the traffic might hold you more than an hour without doing anything. !!!!!! Conrad is definitely not a walking distance to the BTS eventhough shuttle bus provided.
Good luck !!!!!! :D
