Since my silver/Ruby on Qantas expires on Oct 04, I'll be traveling CX to JKF on 3th Nov, what are my chances they will let me to checkin on their business class counters in HKG and JFK with my newly expire card?
Many thanks
Wongo
P.S Had to cross post. Sorry
Additional Info... I am a Ruby after Oct 04 in QF system.. but just no card...

It realllllyy depends on the mood of the agent. You can play dump, and just present the card. Most likely their computer system is not cross-updated yet, so you would still be recognized as OW RUby. But you risk the embarassment if this doesn't happen.

Perhaps call CX and ask them to input ur QF# into ur PNR prior to check-in. Call them and ask if they can "see" your OW Ruby status still.... if they say no such status, you might want to avoid potential embarassment all together.

I mean @ HKG there are so many checkin counters, Except during REAL peak season, even in Y Class the lines are pretty fast and short (compared to SYD and LHR!!) Also you can use the Self Checkin machines.

I guess the only benefit is the Priority Sticker you get in J.

Got used to Checkin at J... I always see a wave of people on Y line on US/UK bound flights in the airports. Just want to make it to the short cut. hehe

Actually I really haven't used the Y Class checkin before (even when I was a Green Member - back in the times PRE-Oneworld - Green = today's silver)

But in any case, it shouldn't be that bad in HKG.

If Priority checkin is really important to you, you can consider the following:

1) In-Town Checkin (Kowloon Station/Hong Kong Station)
2) Pay 50USD (or less?? I forgot) and join MPO. Then you are entitle to use the MPO desk (which is near the J Class desk and you can avoid the Y Queue). with this option, you can still use CR your QF FFP but use the green MPO just as a queue jumper.
3) pay for a J Class ticket (sorry just had to put in a smart arse comment!)

But in any case compared to LHR and SYD the check in experience in HKG is so much more pleasant.

Even in Y the checkin is quickly. Most of the delay are the people who want to discuss at the J or F checkin that they are entitled for any reason to check in at these counters - of course they are not.
With your thinking the whole tier system would be useless. You are entitled or not, finish.

How about kiosk chekc-in? Not many people seem to use it at HKG. If you check in online (and is given operational upgrade), then it really won't make much difference with an agent-assisted check-in.

The OP is travelling to JFK is he not? Passengers for US flights have to check in at the airport (unless travelling with hand luggage only).

AFAIK Y class pax on US flights also get assigned to certain counters for checkin at the airport, which presumably might get a bit squishy as everyone shows up around the same time...

Hi there, I've just moved to HKG and really miss LHR check-in at T1, where one-world elite PAX can use a separate part of the terminal to quickly check-in, and then use separate security screening to bypass the regular screening. I went through HKG last weekend, and it seemed chaotic compared to LHR.

I swear to god that option 3 will happen when I can afford it.
Then again, I've purchase a Business Class from AKL-HKG.

I miss that in AKL where silvers+ can have their own little checkin area. Much bigger checkin area for business class in HKG for silvers. I perfer checkin with CX. Much better then what I used to get in New Zealand. CX now has my business for most routes except NZ/AU. Didn't use them for 10 years because in the days of strikes. I had to pay around $6000 HKD for excess along time ago in 2 trips.

Actually i never used the new Premium T1 facilities in LHR before (as most of my flights depart from T4 and we all know how bad can T4 be (especially @ night when there are like 10 million flights bounding for the East). I remember last time it took me 20 minutes in the Club World Queue and I think for the Y Queue it will be > 1 hour!

But for the JFK flight I think you will be OK as there are not that many european flights leaving at that time (come to think of it I think only the day time LHR flight departs at that time).

But do remember that there is a seperate area for the CX888 or any other USA bound flights (except for YYZ and YVR)

Also as someone pointed out earlier, you canNOT in-town checkin your bags for those flights!

Enjoy your flight!

Looking forward to do my first time doing business in US soil instead of the net. Just hope the people arranges my hotel get me something cheap over there. The price of hotel is nasty.

Actually this was not true for CX888 to New York in December (and while I can't be 100% sure, doubt very much the situation has changed since then). We checked in our bags for New York at the in-town check in--indeed there's was a notice there saying that CX888 is an exception to the general rule that bags for the US must be checked in at the airport (perhaps, although I'm only guessing here, because they can be screened during the stop in Vancouver).

But I'm not surprised for the confusion. When I asked MPC they said I couldn't check in the bags for CX888 in town (even claimed to have confirmed this with the in town check in). Fortunately I'd seen the notice on a previous visit, and called CX reservations who gave me the correct answer--on this issue, they were more accurate than MPC!
