Asia - Manila hotels
I'll be at a conference near Manila in early Nov. The conference coordinators are providing tours after and booking rooms for us at the Somerset Millennium Hotel, No.104 Aguirre Street, in Makati area. I have enough points to stay at the Westin (Roxas Boulevard Pasay) for free.
Can anyone tell me approximately how far apart these two hotels are? Would it be difficult to travel between them?
I'm trying to decide if the free rooms are worth the hassle of traveling by myself between hotels.

The distance per se isn't excessive (10-15 minutes with light traffic?), but traffic between those two areas is frequently horrendous, especially at rush hours.
I would forgo the familiarity of the Westin brand if I had daily meetings in Makati. If on vacation, the Westin does have a more relaxed atmosphere than the Makati hotels.

This is absolutely correct, the traffic is horrible, it's probably only 5-6 miles between the two, but it's taken me 45-60 minutes to get from the Convention Center (adjacent to the Westin) to Makati. It takes longer if it's raining.
I would save the Starwood points for another hotel, the Westin Manila usually has good promos (i.e. US$72.00/night on spg.com, probably even cheaper if booked with a local travel agent, althought you may not get Starwood points with the latter)
Note that the Somerset Millenium is an executive residence type of facility for longer stays.
Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. I'll skip the Westin and go with convenience.

imo manila is a terrible use of points of any kind because 5* hotels are very cheap ($40-65) there.
My son will be staying overnight in manila for a connection at 8 next am. I can get the Best Western La Corona for 48USD but I don't know the location and the neighbourhood. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the location either, but Makati is really pretty close to the airport anyway so I see no reason to not stay there.
just remember that you need to be at the airport 2 to 3 hours before the flight due to the security checks. the only good thing about taking an 8am flight means your son will be on his way to the airport before the rush hour traffic!

If your son is at least 21 and enjoys the companionship of the ladies, then his hotel is perfectly located. Great bars to visit such as LA Cafe and Amazonia. Hope he makes it to the airport on time?

while the security process may be extensive, ime ~70 minutes is more than sufficient
