My sister along with my nieces and nephews are planning a Disneyland visit over winter break and want to stay at a nearby hotel. Since I live in So Cal and don't have a reason to stay in Anaheim, I haven't the foggest idea which Hiltons to recommend. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

The Anaheim Hilton is a very good hotel, with a shuttle to D.L.
They do charge to park a car.

DoubleTree Anaheim/Orange County. They have shuttle to Disneyland. Rates are fare, check the internet. Parking $7.00 All the Family of Hiltons are very close. Search All on the Hilton web site. I think the DoubleTree Anaheim/Orange County has the best rares?????

Anaheim Hilton now uses the awful city shuttles and parking is expensive. Rooms with two beds are fulls not queens, not good for a pack of kids.

There are three properties a bit down Harbor in Garden Grove that share their own nice shuttle and a lot with free parking, the Hampton, HGI and new ES. I've stayed at all of them and they are all good. The doubles have two queens. The Hampton has suites for not much more than a regular room. All three have microwaves and fridge in all rooms.

There is a Hilton Suites in Anaheim not too far from Disneyland. Each room is a suite in the fashion of an Embassy Suites. I haven't stayed there in over 5 years, but when I did, it was very nice, and quite convenient to Disneyland.

If it doesn't have to be a Hilton, I got the Hyatt (just south on Harbor from the ES and HGI) on Priceline for $27 last weekend and for Thanksgiving weekend. If you get in the newly renovated North Tower (just ask) it is nicer than all but the ES Hilton properties. You can also upgrade to a suite for $35, which they confirmed in advance for me for four rooms for Thanksgiving. This is the best buy in the area. Best buy non-Hilton is Hojo's - huge rooms, free parking, walking distance to DL, rates around $50.

THe Hilton Suites near Disneyland/Orange County I think are the best. There are some excellent reviews on http://www.biddingfortravel.com on this hotel. I was thinking of staying around the area, and this hotel by far got the best rating and recommendations from others who stayed there. Have a look at that site and check the reviews, you'll be surprised to find most hilton / doubletree properties review there around the disneyland area.

Hope this helps! I also think the hilton suites offer a free shuttle to/from disneyland and the hotel.

For my choice, I would stay at either the Embassy Suites (just opened up this last year) or the Hilton Suites. Both are very nice hotels, have breakfast in the morning and have a living room (which has a sleeper sofa) and a bedroom (which you can get with two doubles). For the amount of people, I would do one of these

I've been at both with the family so it's a coin flip. Look at the web site to see who gives the best rate.

I would highly recommend the Anaheim Homewood Suites. I stayed there this June and had a great stay. Nice room, good breakfast and shuttle service to Disney.

We had a pleasant stay at the Doubletree Anaheim/Orange County. Nothing special - just a pleasant stay. If you have status with Marriott, the Anaheim Marriott (across the street from the Hilton) is a great choice. Do a search in the Marriott forum.

I have stayed at both the Anaheim/Orange Hilton Suites and the new Embassy Suites in Garden Grove, and the ES wins hands down. It is a beautiful new property, shorter drive/walk/shuttle ride, and a much nicer neighborhood. The HGI, Homewood Suites, and Hampton in Garden Grove are all excellent, fairly new properties as well. Still, the Hilton Suites is perfectly fine - I would stay there again if the price were right, and even it is not far, I could watch the Disney fireworks from my suite.

The Anaheim Hilton is the closest Hilton property by far, you can easily walk from there. It's a convention hotel rather than a family-oriented place like ES, Homewood, or Hilton Suites.

I normally stay at the Hilton Garden Inn just South of the park (shares the parking lot with the new Embassy Suites). Nothing special but a standard, clean HGI and decent place to stay.

Funny that I am holding a brochure for the new Embassy Suites (which I just picked up in the Lobby of the ES in Phoenix) and it looks very nice. Thus, I will probably try the ES next time in the area. It looked like an impressive structure during construction and is gorgeous on the brochure now that it's completed, so I would recommend trying it!

Good location.

The new ES is great, but not necessarily if you are there on business. It was packed with kids when I went. But,it has nice new rooms, a "jungle" type feel to the lobby, and the family can walk to Buco de Pepo (you could even walk to Disney). For families you can't beat it.

I stayed at the Hilton Suites in October. It is a very nice high center atrium style hotel. It's almost across the street from Edison Field and close to Disney. Use caution when using Mapquest to get to their N. State College Blvd. address. I ended up several miles away and had to call the hotel for directions. The Angels were away that night of the playoffs but I joined 300 of my closest friends to watch the game at the sports bar/restaurant just across the parking lot from the hotel.

We are planning a weekend in Anaheim in December and have young children. Any idea which hilton brand hotel (Hilton, doubletree, embassy, etc)is closest or has shuttles to Disneyland? Any other thoughts on these hotels would also be welcome. Thanks (1st post on flyertalk :) ).

I love the Anaheim Hilton. Was on a paid rate on the Executive Floor and they treated me like gold.

Many thanks!

Based on my review of the prior threads, I think I will probably also stay at the Hilton Anaheim IF it is not a long walk to the Disney tram. Is it a long walk to the tram?

The Anaheim Hilton is certainly the closest to Disneyland. However, it is also a huge convention hotel.

If you will have a car, I suggest the Hilton Suites in Anaheim. This property is located less than 10 minutes from the park, the rooms are more spacious, free breakfast, and much less crowded than the Anaheim hotel. There is no suttle to the park however.

The Hilton Garden Inn - Garden Groves is just up the street and they have a shuttle. It shares parking with the ES and Hampton so space can be a problem. The have free hot breakfasts and wired high-speed internet; a very nice property, all things considered.

You mentioned that you have children - I would therefore suggest the Embassy Suites hotel... It is part of the Hilton chain and you get two rooms, so you can put the kids in one and yourself in another....

PLUS - huge, cook to order breakfast and free happy hour in the evening (this is not status dependent - all guests get this)

HGI Garden Grove rooms are all the same so there is nothing to upgrade too there. I stayed at the Anaheim Hilton as a Gold a couple of weeks ago and was put in a regular room on the Executive Level. (Nice evening snack spread BTW).

Any experience with the Doubletree near Disneyland?

The only DT near Disneyland is a few miles away, over near The Block. Standard DT. Nothing special, but I would choose another hotel right now. DT is starting a long renovation program, closing 3 floors at a time to work on. Going to last a year or two.

With Kids, the Hilton Suites is great. This used to be an ES, so every room is a two room Suites, and as mentioned before has a great pool area - two pools actually and a hot tub. Free shuttle, last time I stayed I did get free breakfast, but that might have been beacuse I'm Diamond.

I have stayed at most of the HH Disneyland area hotels. The cheapest tend to be the Hampton Inn and the HGI, both next door to each other in Garden Grove. Lately, I've been seeing rates between $70 to $80 per night. I would choose the HGI over the Hampton, but it is not a big deal either way. Both have free parking.

The Anaheim Hilton is fine most of the time. The rates can range from $79 to $200 per night, depending on the convention business. Parking runs about $12 night. If you want to walk to the Park, it is best to walk to the Disney parking lot near the convention center, just north of Katella. You can then take the free Disney tram to the park entrance. It's really not that far, but when you factor in all the walking you will be doing at the Park, you might want to take the ART shuttle ($3/day).

I like the Hilton Suites a lot and they do have a shuttle to the Park - the same Anaheim Resort Transit system that most of the other hotels have. There is no charge for parking but this hotel can be a lot more spendy at times. Their best deal is the Sunday is Free promotion. If you spend at least 3 nights that include a Sunday, then you end up getting 3 nights for the price of 2.

You can also probably do a Priceline bid and get rooms at the Hyatt Regency for $35 night. Heck, you could get two rooms for $70. The Hyatt and many of the other hotels in the area will charge from $10 to $12 night for parking, so you need to factor that all in as well.

As you can see, there are a lot of choices.

I prefer the ES Anaheim South due to the separate room for our daughter. It is full of families and groups headed to Disney, but that has never been a problem for us since that is who we are as well. The free breakfast starts to fill up around 8, but if you want to be at the park when it opens (also 8), you will miss the crowd. The manager's reception is usually about half full since most guests are still at the park. The Anaheim Resort Transit (ART) shuttle picks up right in front and it is the first stop for that route, thus meaning you will always have a spot on the way to the park. The $3/day/person unlimited rides with children under 10 for free can't be beat. Of course, you can always walk the approximate 3/4 of a mile if you want.

My favorite property in the Area is the HGI on Harbor Blvd. They do a really nice breakfast and the rates are often under $100...
The Homewood on Harbor has nice rooms, but they are usually so stuffed with people that breakfast is a wait, and the elevator takes forever. And the Breakfast is the same stuff that all the Hamptons have ( those "special" eggs!).

Never seen the ES @ a decent Rate - The Doubletree gave me a decent rate once, but it was a handi-room, and they nick you for parking ($10) - no one else in the area charges for parking. ( If you do stay there, don't pay for internet, I got it wirelessly free, even though @ the front desk they wanted $10, or give up your MyWay points. ).

Is the only way to get in an Award Stay as Diamond?

I booked a 3-night stay at the Hilton Anaheim for a Jan award stay about a month out, no problems as a Gold. It caters more to conventions, as the Anaheim convention center is pretty much next door. I was upgraded to the Exec level, had access to the lounge. They don't seem to be consistent with keeping only exec rooms in the lounge, and it can get extremely crowded. My room was across the hall, and I got woken up around 6, after they opened, and kept hearing the door opening/closing.

The last time there (about 2 years ago) on a regular paid stay, I was with someone who was Silver, and he got a room that had a really nice balcony, with patio furniture. We could see the fireworks and even part of the show from the park. I'd rather that than the exec floor, if I had a choice.

There is a 'resort bus' type thing that you can ride over to Disneyland, there's a machine in the hotel lobby to buy tickets. When I was there the last time, the hotel staff tried to tell us how to walk over, but seemed a bit complicated.

There is a charge for parking in the garage, but it never got added to my account, and they never did bill my cc afterwards. Parking can be a bit tough, and the garage has a very strange layout. The hotel can get very busy if there is a big convention going on, and weekends get weddings and other events.

I prefer the ES over the Hilton. The Hilton has traditionally been overflowing with convention goers when I’ve stayed; that and the sheer size of place makes it overwhelming.
The ES is nice b/c you start off with a full breakfast before hitting the park. Just don’t fill up on pancakes if you plan to start your day on ‘California Screamin’. We also like heading back to the hotel for a midday nap and manager’s reception. It’s a good way to recharge the batteries before heading back into the park.

You need to check the convention center calendar to see if a big convention is in town during your dates. If so, you may find no availability or high prices.

I like the HGI on Harbor a lot. Haven't tried the new Doubletree Suites yet.

Have always liked the Hilton Suites near Anaheim Stadium. You can get to D-Land on the ART bus from here as well. Not as many nearby restaurants as you will find on Harbor but also not quite the same zoo-like atmosphere.

The most family-friendly place is the ES. I did not care for the animitronic lion that roars every half-hour, but otherwise this is a good place for family visits.

The Hilton next to the Anaheim Conv Ctr and right across the street from Disney is nice too. The gym has its own indoor full court basketball court, great gym, aerobics rooms, pool, sauna, etc.

Have a great time!

I stayed at the ES this past Tuesday night due to business in the area. Now, if I had my family with me....my perception might have been a little different, but I have to disagree with some of the comments concerning this hotel.
I found it to be a little ragged, and in need of updating/renovation. While the lobby area was ok, the room looked very tired. 80's style brown all around, including the bed coverings and furniture. The desk and tv cabinet were nicked...and had clearly seen better days.
Once again, if I had the family there, and we were spending all day in the park, I probably wouldn't care....
I had a breakfast meeting elsewhere, and was gone before the managers reception, so I can not comment on those amenities.

Booking a one night stay for Disneyland visit for our 3 yo's birthday mid-Nov.

Have read about the hilton properties and reviewed the choices. Wasn't sure whether to go for paid or award, but that depends on the cost.

Have narrowed it down to the following:

Hilton Anaheim - $143 but only 30k seems a bargain
DT Anaheim resort/Convention Center - $111 may be good value for paid stay especially since it's 35k for an award
HGI Anahemim/Garden Grove - only $95 and 30k but further away
DT Anaheim/Orange - $101 and only 25k - further away

One of the criteria is that we don't want to drive to Disneyland - either walking distance or a shuttle. Only one property mentions a shuttle ($3) - do they all provide one? Are the first two properties walking distance to Disneyland?

Main criteria for the choice will be room(upgrade) quality, lounge (& breakfast), cost, convenience, pool/gym.

recommendations?

recommendations?Big Hilton is walkable for adults and for 3-year-old if in a stroller. Pool is fine, golds end up on pool level with lounge access so you will probably get exec level. Shuttle is the Anaheim one (yech).

HGI is fine, again shuttle is the Anaheim one, good breakfast, not walkable. The new DT I like very much, beautiful hotel with good upgrades, probably too far to walk, paid shuttle.

Orange is pretty far, perhaps they have their own shuttle, haven't stayed there. Embassy Suites, Homewood and Hampton are also fine but not walkable. They used to have a free shuttle but I think they now ding you and also charge for parking.

Hi,

We stayed at the hilton Anaheim Suites near Disneyland on 12th to 15th October ( $130 per night)

Check in was done quickly and we were given rooms 903 and 904 ( 10 floors in the hotel). The indoor atrium was very nice and there are two glass walled elevators (one of them di not work on Saturday morning when there was a large group of college students checking out so there was a wait for the lift).
We also got coupons for free drinks in the bar ( two per night) or 15% the food price. We also got breakfast coupons for the full breakfast buffet ( normally $17.95). Inside the room we received two bottles of water and a packet of biscuits.
The bar area for Dinner/light snacks was quite quiet and the food was good.

Breakfast in the atrium restaurant was very good with the usual breakfast buffet plus a made to order egg/omelette station.
The suites themselves were very good with a large living room with a dining table and fridge/microwave as well as a sitting area with a tv. The bedroom was nice with a lot of storage space and bathrobes were provided. The bathroom was large, nicely done up with a separate shower and bath as well as the wc being around the corner in the bathroom ( there were two doors two the bathroom- one from the bedroom and one form the living room).

There is a regular shuttle to Disneyland ( about every 20mins except for an hour off at lunchtime (1230-1330) ( it is the Anaheim resort shuttle route 14) and took about 15mins to get to Disneyland as it stops at two other hotels ( it was never crowded). On the way back to the hotel the Hilton suites is the first stop.
The fitness centre is small ( on the other hand we spend all day at Disneyland walking!:D) and it has a nice indoor pool as well as a larger outdoor pool ( nicely lit up at night)
Check out time is at 11am but we got 1pm with no problem ( we left at noon to drive to Palm Springs)

Overall a very nice hotel.

Regards

TBS

Update on the HGI - my in-laws spent a night there this week:

1. Parking is free.
2. None of the equipment in the fitness room was functioning.
3. The parents (gold) received full breakfasts (no upgrade fee) and server did not charge for the teenagers' breakfasts, either.
4. New rule re rollaways - not permitted in rooms with two queens or one king plus sofabed. If they have another type of room, I've never been in it.

I just got back from a 2-night stay at the HGI in Garden Grove. I'm diamond, and we had 3 rooms. They don't have suites, so no upgrades. But the rooms were quite large and very clean. Upon check-in they gave me breakfast coupons for one room. I told him that I had 3 room and asked if there was any way I could get some more. Without hesitation he said "sure, I'll go ahead and double the coupons for you."

The breakfast was very good. Maria heads up the dining and does an excellent job, always with a smile on her face.

The drive down to Disneyland doesn't take long at all. We wanted to stay a bit aways since I've had bad experiences with hotels closer to the park in terms of cleanliness, noise, etc.

All in all it was a great stay, and I'd stay there again.

I've stayed at nearly every HH property near Disneyland over the past 4 years (10 stays/year). My favorites are in this order:

1) DT Guest Suites
2) Hiltons Suites
3) HGI
4) Homewood Suites
5) Hilton Anaheim

For me, price is usually the determining factor. It is surprising how much the prices jump around.

Just stayed at the Homewood in Garden Grove 10/18-10/21. We choose it, casue of the price $89 per night we had 4 people in a room and the 2 queen beds plus the fold out couch was nice.

The downside we had a wedding to go to on the 19th and it was in the afternoon, so we ran to D-land in the AM came back to shower and there was a plumbing leak and no water halfway through my wifes shower:mad:. It was awful. Can you imagine how we both looked and probably smelled. The hotel was very sorry about it but could do nothing, they did give us a free nights stay (which I thougth was appropriate). We did note that that evening and the next day the water would go hot/cold all the time, made for bad showers.

Also be prepared for a super full lobby in the AM during breakfast since it is free and you have so many people trying to get food. It was not worth it to us to have to climb through everyone so whe just didn't eat there.

The hotel is very clean, the staff is very nice and it's not a bad hotel. If I was on a business trip I would NOT stay there, just to crowded and only free wired internet in the room, wireless is only avail in the lobby :td:. If I was on a hoilday and the rate was good I might stay there again, although my favorite 2 Anaheim Hiltons are: Hilton Anaheim and HGI-Garden Grove. For refrence the only other ones I've stayed in are the HI-Garden Grove and Hilton Guest Suites.

Earlier this year we stayed at the Hilton Anaheim (Convention Center). If there is not a convention going on, this is a nice half-empty place to stay (walk to DL if you like, decent Lounge with view of DL fireworks) and can be a Hotwire/PL bargain. As I recall, we paid $79 a night when rack was $179.

On Hotwire, it was 3.5 star, Anaheim South. I think there are only 2 hotels in this category.

Parking kinda high ($15? a night), but we were upgraded to Executive Floor on request (wife is Gold strictly through Amex spending). This was our second Hotwire stay there; the first time they gave us 5 HH room-nights by mistake.

I stay at the HGI once per week or so. Free parking, free internet. Ok breakfast, though not necessarily free as at the adjoining Hampton unless you have status and have chosen that option. Otherwise $11. I can't comment on the park shuttle. Ask for a room *not* on the Harbor blvd side, which is noisy. Aircon is typical HGI, similar to Hampton, and can be noisy and it's sited right next to the work desk, which is dumb. Windows only open about an inch.

I stay a lot at the Hampton and the Embassy Suites, too, which all share the same free parking, usually choosing by rate. Embassy Suites charges for internet.

Note: if you don't mind driving a couple of miles, there are a zillion great Vietnamese restaurants arrayed all along Brookhurst. Check Yelp.

Just to chime in that I stayed at the Homewood once while on business instead of the HGI/Hampton/Embassy Suites down Harbor Blvd as an experiment. Free parking. Not that great for business, as mentioned. L-o-n-g corridors.

If I had a couple of kids and was going to Disneyland and I was ok eating free breakfast and dinner at the hotel, with a good rate, this would be ok. I can't comment on the shuttle to the park, though, which can be a major factor.

I stay very frequently in Anaheim near Disneyland, and I'm currently on a one night stay at the Homewood Suites. I just found out some bad news when I checked in yesterday... no more free parking at any of the Hilton properties on Harbor Blvd. This includes the Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites. They all now charge $12/day for parking. I think it just started as of March 1 this week.

It is a real shame, it is one of the only reasons I sometimes chose these Hilton properties. I'm also Hyatt Diamond and SPG Platinum member... if the price is the same there's no way I'm going to choose the HGI or HI over the Hyatt OC or Sheraton GG. If you have ever had the breakfast buffet at the Hyatt compared to the HGI or Homewood you know what I mean. Hyatt is far superior, without question. Plus I always get an upgrade at the Hyatt to a suite or Conference King (huge!). These lower end Hiltons don't even have an upgrade to offer.

It should be noted that there are other Hiltons in the area that already charged for parking... the Anaheim Hilton, Doubletree (Harbor bl and in Orange), and the Hilton Suites started charging last year.

It may seem trivial, but this will probably mean no more Hilton stays for me in Anaheim, unless the rates are significantly lower. With this decision I think they lost a real competetive edge in Anaheim.

Homewood's website as of 15 Mar 09 still shows free parking, but it is indeed $12/night as mentioned by JonathanIT and just verified with the hotel. The front desk said they would waive the parking charge if someone mistakenly thought there was free parking until the website is updated.

I got the Hampton to waive the parking charge last week, but I'm going to be looking for alternatives, too.
