I am trying to book a ticket on CX and want to be sure I get AAdvantage miles. My understanding is that I need to be in "H" class or hiher. When looking on www.cathay-usa.com, I keep getting "K" class fares.

Specifically I am trying to go

LAX-BKK on November 18
BKK-LAX on November 28

I am planning to travel in coach and want to go on the cheapest ticket I can that will earn AA miles. Also willing to use local travel agent in LA if any one has a good recommendation.

Any advice? Thank you.

Have you considered simply calling CX reservations?

You can go to ANY travel agent in LA. They know how and where you can get the fares you want.

ALternatively, you may try booking the ticket on aa.com. AA.com will quote you fares available in H class only whereas the CX site doesn't always do that.

itn.net provides the booking engine for the Cathay (USA) web site, yet doesn't -- if accessed directly -- provide access to K and other web-only fares.

Sometimes searching as a multi-city fare will also cause it to find the H fare rather than the specials; this doesn't seem to be working with the current K fares but has at times when they've had the really cheap fares.

I always book my CX fares thru CX leverage. Costs nothing to join and the website shows the H fares (double check, of course).

CX leverage prices have consistently been a bit better that the CX res agent for the same flights and class of service.

Safe travels!

They seem to want a business tax ID number and some other business information... how do you get registered other than through your employer, if you don't own a small business?

Thank you. I ended up checking with www.cathaypacific.com , www.cathay-usa.com , www.AA.com , and 3 LA based travel agencies. The lowest "H" class fare was available through the Catahy 1-800 number by several hundred dollars. It is a mystery to me though how every website and every travel agent came back with a different fare. cathay-usa had the cheapest, but it was a fare that did not earn miles.

thanks again.
