Hi,
I recently booked a return trip from Paris to New York on UA - the flight was actually operated by LH. When I got the miles on my bmi card I only got 0.5x the miles because the ticket was W class.
On UA they offer 1x for W class, but LH only offer 0.5x
Since I was sold a UA coded flight I think I should be entitled to the 1x miles but bmi diamond club don't seem to agree with me --- should I make a bigger deal out of this with diamona club or is this just the way it is??
Bye

Got the chapter and verse on this and I'm afraid you're not going to like the answer.
BD is among several *A carriers that insists on implementing a far-from-transparent / logical rule that states where you're travelling on a CS service, it's the miles earning policy of the airline which operates the flight which will determine what you get. So in cmcbugg's case the 0.5x miles posted are what you get :(
Worse still is if the metal is operated by a non-*A carrier - miles earned would be nil.
It would be interesting to hear of anyone who has had experience of being on the other end of this rule; for example, booking a cheapo fare class under the BD designator, but the the service operated by another *A airline, such as SK. Let's say W as the fare class. Under strict interpretation of the rules this should yield 100% miles, compared to BD's 0.5x.

I recently travelled to Copenhagen on a bmi ticket booked in S class. The flight was operated by SK and it also appeared to be an SK S class booking.
When I checked my online statement, I only received 800 miles so I called DC who instantly changed it to 1200 miles, which is the right amount for a bmi S class booking.

Actually, the really intersting interpretation would be booking a non * CS operated on * metal...
I'm pretty sure BD (unlike, say, LH) have the rule that it's the issuing carrier's fare code, rather than the operating carrier's, that determines the miles earnt. Hence all the Flyertalkers booking LH tickets for BD routes, for the purposes of mileage thievery avoidance (before LH mileage thievery started, at least).
Thing is, the DC computer seems to credit you inconsistently. Which can be useful: I've managed to get LO points on an LH flight that would otherwise have failed to qualify. But a phonecall to DC sorts it out.
The DC website (OK, not the best worded piece of information) says that you can earn miles on 'all flights operated by a Star Alliance partner', but doesn't mention the rule that it has to be ticketed by one. I'd like to see someone getting points on an SU-ticketed LO flight...
