Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion,

I can't remember the cost of the taxi but i think it was alot as the airport is so far out...

Is there a bus that late?...

Are the car rentals still open?.

As i get in a midnight I don't know what is available...any suggestion would be great

thanks

The last AKL to City bus leaves at 10 pm.

The shuttles and the major rental car operations are listed as "open for all flights".

No bus. Taxi ride is very fast at that time of day, but as much of the fare is distance based it is still quite a bit. Maybe NZD $50 for CBD (costs more going from airport than to due to the surcharge).

If $ are an issue, either take a shuttle or find someone going central city to share a cab with (maybe even an FTer if you are lucky).

A taxi would be the best way to go, the traffic will be non-existent so the fare wouldn't be as revoltingly high. IMHO

The car rental counters should be open, and definitely will be if you have pre-booked. In AKL a cheap rental can work out as a better deal than being slogged with the taxi fare both ways, provided you are not going to have to pay through the nose for parking.

Otherwise I would go for the taxi option, as the shuttle buses are a pain in the proverbial - the last thing you want to do at that time of night is be taken on a tour of AKL's extensive suburbs en route to your final destination.

What this does highlight is the very poor transport links to AKL, though that is typical of the transport infrastructure of the city as a whole, unfortunately. :(

Thanks everyone, ...

I think I will rent a car, I am only there overnight then go on to SYD..

I need to be in city for the morning, which is why I choose a downtown hotel, plus i wanted Hilton points...

Thanks again.

Yeah, we all know our transport system sucks :td: but nobody knows quite how to fix it. The politicians that aren't road-obsessed (and for those that are their lack of forward-mindedness is astounding, all to save some measly cash) haven't really come up with a viable alternative.
