Going on a trip from Philippines to Zambia and South Africa this will entail flying Manila-Johannesburg-Livingstone (Zambia)-land trip(OPEN JAW)- Johannesburg - Manila.

Follows are my question:
1. Will I be allowed to book an open-jaw on an award ticket? An economy flight from Asia to Africa is 60,000 miles. I wanted to maximize the miles by including Livingstone.

2. Can staying in Johannesburg for 3 days be considered a stopover. Or is stopover just an overnight thing?

Thanks.

An economy flight from Asia to Africa is 60,000 miles.Er, not in AsiaMiles it isn't... AsiaMiles awards are based on the total mileage. Are you in fact using AAdvantage miles?

If you want to use AsiaMiles,
MNL-HKG-JNB is Award ZONE D (6630+711 < 5000-7500miles).
So you need 60,000 miles for MNL-HKG-JNB-HKG-MNL.
Or 40,000 miles for MNL-HKG-JNB.

However, MNL-HKG-JNB-LVI is ZONE E(7500-10000miles).
So you need 55,000 miles for MNL-HKG-JNB-LVI.

Fortunately, JNB-LVI is 595 miles(indicated by AsiaMiles Caliculater).
Then, oneway award for JNB-LVI is 10,000 miles.

Finally, combination of MNL-HKG-JNB-HKG-MNL(60,000miles) and
JNB-LVI (10,000miles) is 70,000 miles.
