I am not a big fan of limo and we have a small wedding. Do you think the XJ-8 is a good wedding car? Have any of you done that?? I wish Hertz offer Mercedes one day. Btw, I live in SF Bay Area.

Thanks in advance.

Before you go this route (which, as a father of a bride, I appreciate for the potential cost savings), consider the potential trade-off if Hertz can't give you the "right" car when you go to pick it up.

Say you go in to pick up that Jag or Infiniti, and the friendly person behind the desk tells you that all they have are some brand new SUVs. Will that ruin your wedding day? Or the only color car available is whatever clashes with what the bridal party is wearing. How much do you care?

If you decide to take the risk I would definitely go in person to one of the Hertze Local Edition offices and ask the manager for personal attention. My nearby HLE is very responsive. And with only three or four employees it is less likely that they will mess up and give your Jag to as an upgrade to some guy who reserved a Pontiac.

Congrats and blessings!

"Sir, your Grand Marquis is in spot 319". Instead of saying "We just got married" that sort of says "we just received our AARP cards in the mail and retired." You may want to consider renting from one of those exotic car rental places, I'm sure there's one in SFO.

If you actually reserve a Prestige Collection car, believe me, they'll do all they can to make sure to have it there for you. I rent Prestige most of the time and always have received the car I reserved (usually one of the nicest examples).

If you reserve something less and hope for an upgrade (cert, President's Circle/5-Star staus), then I might be a little worried. :)

They're not going to give a PC who reserved a Kia your Jag if it's the last one on the lot and you have a reservation for it. The station manager does not want to honk off customers like you.

Even here in SEA, where the SM is a grade-A ..., he walks me to my car every time I rent Prestige. :)

I took a chance for my wedding to rent a F at LAX. Talked to the gold desk, & was able to get a Jag. It was perfect for us, & we were very happy! However, if you don't want to undergo the risk, I would just reserve a prestige and talk to the manager on duty the day of pick up.

How many people need to get in & out of the Jag? If it's just bride & groom, it might work. Like others have mentioned, talk to the station manager ahead of time to make double/triple/quadruple sure that Hertz doesn't f*** this up.

I considered booking 2 Prestige cars (for our mothers) for our wedding, but Hertz wouldn't guarantee Jags or high-end convertibles. "Prestige" in that case would have guaranteed me a couple of Volvos, with a chance at something better. Not that I don't like Volvos as an upgrade, but I don't want to pay crazy jack for them. We ended up not renting cars for the mothers, and they were perfectly happy with that.

For our wedding car, we ended up doing a vintage Bentley. The chauffeur was the owner of the car, and he did weddings for less than the cost of a standard stretch limo. It was a beautiful ride and it looked great in the pictures...

If you pick up at SFO, I wouldn't think there'd be much risk of not getting what you wanted.

The one time I rented Prestige I reserved the S70 and got an X-Type.

Highly recomend this.
We did this for our Wedding.
Had my brother (The Best Man) serve as our Chauffeur to the reception, then I drove the rest of the weekend.

Also almost caused our first Maritial fight over who got to drive the car the next day.

Luckily I showed her the section that only authorized drivers.

She's will not fall for that anymore, but I give credit to that Jag for the 10 years of being Happily Married I will celebrate in November.

I would suggest a quick call to the Manager a few days before you pick it up to let them know what and why you are reserving it just to make sure everything is ready.
