Despite being a Gold member I have rarely flown CX in the last year or so. I now have to go from the US to HKG and wanted to try out the full F service.
Since I can schedule out of NY or CA which do frequent CX flyers recommend to experience their F service?
I have been researching some past postings and they seem to indicate that NYC is best. People still agree?
Also I will connect to another carrier in HKG for onward asian flights and wondered if I can use the F section of the Pier/Wing if I am INBOUND F . I remember being denied entry before to the F section because my onward flight was C class despite my inbound F.
Thanks!

Sorry.. as a GOLD MPC member, you are not permitted to use the lounge if you're flying another carrier. However, you may try asking at the WING entrance to say that you came in in F and maybe they *might* let you in. But don't push it.
As for F service, there really is no difference in service/meals where you depart from. It just depends if you prefer a 747 or an A340 aircraft.
Perhaps you might want to try joining AA's AAdvantage if you reside in the US. Ex-NYC flights... on the nonstop, you get 3x mileage. 2x if you take the JFK-HKG via YVR (no stopping in YVR though).

A bit off topic. I used to really enjoy the "F" class service from HKG-JFK via YVR on CX 888 when it was still a 747-400. From what I understand that service was staffed by crew based in YVR who are qualified for the 744. Only some are qualified to operate the 343.
How do you guys feel about the YVR based crew compared to those based in HKG ?

YVR based crew are trained on both the A343, and the 744. It's just the flight patterns that some are cross-crewed. YVR-JFK-YVR on the A343, and YVR-HKG-YVR on the 747 are staffed mostly by YVR based crew.
There isn't much difference except maybe their command of English is better than normal HKG based crew members.

When I travelled from YVR-JFK the FA told me she is only doing YVR-JFK-YVR only.
However I remember when I did that same route in 2002 the crew was from HKG (maybe back then they haven't setup a crew base in YVR?
They also stay at the Rasdisson on Lex in NYC!
From the trip reports we read here it might be better to do either the CX889 or Ex LAX as the Non-Stop NYC-HKG is not that good (well at least in J) And I wouldn't be suprise after working for 16+ hours straight!

In terms of F meal service, I preferred the offerings on the CX 873 (ex-SFO) to that offered on the non-stop JFK-HKG flight. Seemed to be more options and more depth to what was offered (i.e. they ran-out of stuff on the JFK flight). Also, the cabin was cleaner and the FAs less frentic on the SFO flight than the JFK flight (the SFO flight has a much longer ground time in SFO than the JFK flight, so the turn-around is much less rushed). Finally, I did not like that breakfast was the second main meal offered (with a 8 PM arrival time, a light dinner would be more appropriate, as is offered on the daylight HKG-LHR flight). While it was nice to fly non-stop, I probably will stick with the one-stop flight going to JFK, but, based on reports from others and not first-hand experience, try the non-stop HKG-JFK flight.

Since we are talking about F here, in my experience I have never come across any CX cabin crew working F whose command of English was anything less than very good.

An earlier post had said that ex SFO CX did not do the full dinner dervice on F because of the late departure time. So this has been changed?
And what do people thing of 747 vs. Airbus?
Thanks in advance!!

CX does provide a full dinner on SFO-HKG flt. The problem is you may already have had your dinner to enjoy it that late. There must be some confusion in reading the posts.
You can always ask them to serve the dinner when you prefer (after a few hrs of sleep for example).
