Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - One World Award seat discrepency

I just checked on Asia Miles for Business Class award seats on CX and it offered seats on dates close to my requirements. However when I phoned my American Airlines EXP Desk they said these were not available. I thought CX and AA were Award Partners. Has anybody else ever encountered this unfairness

Why is it unfair? Most airlines offer less availability to partners, keeping some space for the "native" FFers.

I understand AA and BA offer the same availability to all One World Award requests, it has no bearing on your FF status or which Airline you belong to. A 'U' Class seat is a 'U' class seat and if they are available anybody from any OneWorld member can book it. And I certainly know UA have the same arrangment for all Star Alliance Partners. I have always suspected something strange about Cathay/OW 'U' Class awards as they can never be accessed through the availability tool.

I think there is at least one airline within Star Alliance that is well known for severely restricting award seats to partners.
In case if you are not yet aware, UA Mileage Plus members are even required to 'pay' miles needed for a First Class award on that airline in order to obtain a business class seat for two-class intra-Asia flights. This is discrimination specifically targeting UA.
We don't need to name that airline here, do we? ;)

But it's only UA's Mileage Plus that is affected by this airline. It hasn't (or at least not yet...) affected AC's Aeroplan, LH's Miles and More...to name a few. Could it be only because UA's in the hole? (But then again, so's AC.. but that hasn't changed anything...)

Well, did I say say it also affects members of AC, LH, etc.? This is about the second point of first class mileage requirement for a business class seat.
But I think SQ does restricts award seat availability to LH members as well, not to mention those of UA.

I do hope CX holds its inventory back! I find it irritating that all those AA members keep on hogging up the awards and then there is NONE available to us loyal MPOs!

It's not only AA members that have access to CX's inventory... there's also Swiss Travel Club, Alaska MVP and ALL Oneworld member groups.
So that's why MPO members can waitlist ... this is a BIG advantage for us.

Your short sited outlook shows it's ugly head again. You want to live in some little tiny village where it's "what's mine is mine, don't touch" and that's fine, but that's not what alliances are about. Why don't you just get your own private airline and wallow in it's glory. AA, BA, Qantas, LAN and the others PAY for the CX seats just like CX pays for seats when their members want to use the services of the other airlines. If the airlines felt that this was NOT a good deal for them I'm sure they would have dissolved this alliance long time ago. But of course, you KNOW better.
BTW, how is your twin, SHADO?

Who is SHADO?
The reason for my comment is that the MPC staff have told me they noticed that many AA people just claim the award and then on the date of departure they just change the date (hence it stuffs up the WL for us MPOs!). I find that the sheer greediness of AA EXP is really annoying. (Not to say that all MPOs and AMs are not greedy)
Also it is clearly unfair that based on the ability to earn miles (AA is much more easier and CHEAPER compared to CX and also given CX has one of the best products in the alliance, it is NOT fair to share equally to other members!)
This applies to those dreaded AA's Lounges! Which in my opinion CX shouldn't be charged!

I think you know.

That may be true, but AA still has to pay CX for a seat when one of their members claims an award, so it's AAs problem NOT CXs.

maybe you should tell that to the CX managment board? I don't think they see it quite the same way as you do. It's a BUSINESS and decsions are made based upon INCOME and PROFIT. It doesn't matter what an average Joe thinks, does it? unless the average Joe is a majority shareholder.

1) NO, I don't know who is SHADO
2) Yes, therefore in order to rectify AA's Problem CX is Restricting the availability to AA members which makes perfect BUSINESS sense
3) If CX is sharing everything into Oneworld, then there are NO more incentives to just travel CX and become a MPO. Therefore this does affect the overall demand and market share of CX. I am pretty sure all these factors will affect revenue which will impact the bottom line. Therefore I think the Board will be interested in these types of problems in the alliance!

While I have seen Shado's posts (do not remember contents, though), who is his twin? What is that supposed to mean?

The topic is AND WILL REMAIN CX award access on AA with a possible spin on OW in general - I will not tolerate this thread getting into personal nonsense and I am amazed that some of you have taken the bait like this.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, as a general rule, airlines don't want their FFers to redeem miles on other airlines, as the airline supporting the FFP has to foot the bill. So not only do you face restrictions from the transporting carrier (in this case, CX), but it is entirely possible that the issuing carrier (in this case, AA) would artifically limit access to award inventory whenever practicable.

Being both an AA EXP and a BA Gold, I have never known AA refuse a U class seats to any One World Frequent Flyer Member no matter what status if it was showing available in the Inventory, and it was a simple matter checking in The Old Galileo German Site or the newer Sabre availability tool site. However I feel that there should be reciprocity if CX members of any status have access to the same inventory as myself an AA EXP then I expect the same in return when I need seats on CX. Maybe next they will say in CX First Class Oh you are on an AA One World Award, No caviar for you.

Hey, just be thankful that CX hasn't imposed a 2-cabin rule on AAers similar to what SQ has done to UAers...;)

Whats a 2 Cabin Rule?
UA FFers who redeem a Star Business award must be booked in Economy class on ALL two-cabin SQ flights except the nonstop EWR-SIN and LAX-SIN flights.
