Hi! I'm a new member in this forum.
I would like to ask a couple of question about CX. I hope you can give me some useful information!

1. I'm CX MPO Gold, and have flown HKG-LHR for 12 round trips in the past two years in Y, and I haven't got upgraded even once?? What are the chances of getting an upgrade from Y to J with Gold status?

2. What are the criteria of becoming an invitation member of CX? My dad got about 1.6M miles cumulated in the past ten years, does CX give anything to these loyal members in return?

3. I'm planning to fly on J HKG-LHR on either CX or BA the coming Feb with 100000 Asia Miles, which one is better?

4. Do you know why CX has swapped the 34C to 255 and 744 to 253? Isn't CX 255 more popular and needed more pax?

Replies very much appreciated!!

WELCOME to FLYERTALK... now to your questions... HKG-LHR is an extremely popular route with F/J sold out way before Y. Therefore your chances of upgrade are good but it's an iffy situation depending on the day you travel. There is no guarantee.. as I know some people with no status and they got upgraded. You have to gauge the flight patterns.

There is no SET criteria of becoming an Invitation member these days. It is not dependent on the miles he has accumulated but rather of his loyalty towards CX. Is he Diamond most of these years? His travel patterns should have been relayed to Cathay headquarters by now.. and if he is worthy of Cathay's custom, CX will invite him in due time.

3. I'm planning to fly on J HKG-LHR on either CX or BA the coming Feb with 100000 Asia Miles, which one is better?.
Good lukc in trying to get ANY seats on either. It's Chinese New Year in case you didn't know.. and most flights to/from HKG and Europe are already gone in award space... I suggest trying alternate routes. But if you're spending miles.. I guess you should be lucky to just go for whoever's available.

Given Guy Betsy's comments re availability for awards, you may want to look into a QF award HKG-LHR as they will be flying that route by then - and being a new route for them it may have better availbility. And all QF flights on the route will have SKybeds.

When are you looking? I can see the 34C on the 253 for the next few weeks. If it has changed going forward, I agree that it would be an odd move.

For award availability, you might also look at BA. The 3 extra flights a week seem to have loosened up award availability in premium cabins a fair bit.

Oh, and welcome to Flyertalk!
