US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - USAir is dumping the 328'sView Full Version : USAir is dumping the 328's Jacque Sep 17, 04, 9:18 am I've never flow on one is this a good thing? SEA_Tigger Sep 17, 04, 10:03 am Never flown one, either, but 18.1" seat width sounds good, though the 31" pitch, doesn't. So I imagine if you can get the Exit Row on the left, it's a sweet ride, otherwise it's probably like being on a low-ceilinged Airbus. NeoOfTheCRS Sep 17, 04, 10:38 am What is your source for this? If you mean the Dornier 328's, I really liked them. Thought they were nice aircraft although people at US who i spoke to said they were fraught with maintenace problems. CLTFlyer Sep 17, 04, 11:02 am The source is likely the bankruptcy filing where US gives notice that it would like to reject the leases on the DO328s, some Dash 8-100s and -200s, and a 737-300. See http://www.donlinrecano.net/dr201/mwc/04-13819/dk000035-0000.pdf The Lurker Sep 17, 04, 12:20 pm US has been planning to get rid of the D328s for over a year. Fairchild Dornier went bankrupt, so it is hard to find parts for the aircraft when it breaks. Performance problems can also occur, and it is not too uncommon to have weight restrictions on 328 flights. All 328s are flown by wholly owned express carrier PSA, and PSA has been replacing the the 328s with the CRJs. While some will say a turboprop is still a turboprop, I personally am disappointed, as the 328 is far more comfortable than the Dash-8. Compared to the Dash 8, the 328 is much faster, a lot quieter, and has seats which are more comfortable and actually recline. The window even have windowshades. My favorite part of the aircraft though is its cockpit. The modern flight deck seems like it should be on a much larger plane. I for one will miss the Dornier 328, but to each his own. For those who haven't been on one, here is a picture of the cabin (http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=356558) and the flight deck (http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=330001). NeoOfTheCRS Sep 17, 04, 1:20 pm US may change its tune now that Embraer and Canadair are going to stop new deliveries during bankruptcy. |
