Hertz - Same Location with Multiple Locations in Hertz System

Ran into an interesting situation today (wish I had known this a week ago!).

Here in KC we have a Hertz location at the Westin Crown Center hotel. Right across the street from the Westin Crown Center is the Amtrak station (in Union Station). In the Hertz reservation system there is a location for the Westin and a separate location for the Amtrak station, but the Amtrak station location is really the Westin location ... the key difference being their rates are different!

What it looks like is the Amtrak station charges the same rates as the airport location, which can be very low on the weekends especially ... BUT, the add-on fees/taxes are much lower. As an example, just last weekend a rental from the airport that cost me $40 with taxes and everything cost cost me $30 with taxes and everything at the Amtrak location (which is actually more conveniently located for me).

It might be in the system for folks arriving by train who then need to get a car. Which is why it might mirror the airport rates but, as you noted, does not incur the airport fees.

I'm sure that's why it is there, but it's interesting because basically you have a single actual location with mulitple locations in the Hertz computer which do not price out the same (or even close to the same actually).

As an example, a Premium car this weekend is over $40/day at the Westin, but only $25/day at the Amtrak station, although they are in fact the same location!

There are a few other places I'm aware of with variations on this theme.

At PIT, for instance, one can duck the airport concession charges (which can be $20+/rental) by asking for the car at the FBO instead of "PIT."

They claim this is for private flight arrivals only and no walkins are permitted. I've done both without a problem ^ .
