Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX724 out of schedule- now no good LAX connection

I got a call from CX today about my #724 flight on 9/21/04 from KUL to HKG before connecting to CX880 to LAX.

Anyone know when this flight was cancelled or when this flight # was taken out of the schedule.????
I now have a 5.5 hrs layover in HKG(realise it could be worse- ) instead of 1.5 hrs.but I now have to miss meetings planned for that day

What is really frustrating is that CX code ahres with Malaysian, but that flight gets in 55 minutes before CX880 departs and it is not a valid connection. If they are going to drop CX 724, then it woudl seems to make sense to push back CX880 5 minutes to allow for a valid connection.

Do I have any chance of geting into FC lounge at HKG bearing in mind the now 5.5 hrs lay over

First the bad news, NO, unless you are flying in F.

Now for the good news, The CX business lounges in HKG are wonderful. The only difference is that you won't have access to the day rooms or Cabanas, but everything else is pretty much the same. Ok, maybe the food offerings are not as good, but very much sufficient. I can't think of any other lounge(s) in the OW system that will make the hours fly as quickly as the CX lounges in HKG.

Personally I would risk a 55 min connection at HKG. I would say you have a 90% chance of making it.

can you 'decide' to take an illegal connection? (i have no experience with tight connections, I usually enjoy my leisurely 2 or more hours layover in HKG :D )

Sure you can. Just "miss" your earlier flight out of KUL.

It turns out it is only cancelled for Sept 21,2004- was suggested at LAX , probably due to light load- am I out of line to at least request an operational upgrade to FC for HKG/LAX on the return?

Yes, you are out of line even on a J ticket.

Not meant to be rude or anything but my reposne to the op-Upgrade:

= So WHAT if you have a J Class ticket.

I always have a J Class ticket and i must say I always appreciate if they do give me an op-upgrade to F. It is a courtesy rather than a requirement. Also since they told you about this in advance and they really have NO obligation for you to make that connection.

I find that CX is pretty good in actually CALLING you instead of giving you the surprise at the airport and put you on AI or some other substandard airline.

If you are travelling in USA, you will not even get any ADVANCE warning, so the airline may just consolidate you to another flight without any compensation. (This is from my bitter expereice with AA)

Also I wouldn't complain when you can spend the 5.5 hours at the J Class lounge in HKG!. I remember on AA I was not allowed in the AC because they will not give access to F Class domestic pax (and back then I was only a silver memeber). Also nothing was available to buy, I was left there to wait in the dirty dept lounge and starve to death for > 6 HOURS!

Have you actually issued the ticket? If not I don't think you can demand anything as technically a Reservation does not mean you have entered into the contract as yet!

The 55 minute connection at CLK is a legal connection. So you have no jurisdiction in asking CX for compensation. Unless all options are cancelled and you have no alternative for more than 24 hours, then you might have something to claim against CX. Otherwise, they will just reroute you on another carrier.

Actually had you gone INTO the Admirals Club then, you would still have starved to death but at least on some peanuts and crackers. At least at the main terminal there's the odd Burger King or Starbucks!

Unfortunately I was at the AE sub terminal and the witch at the gate told us to stay there because they might be changes! After 2 hours I had to goto the news stand in that terminal and buy some crisp to ensure I didn't faint!

55 minutes is legal for CX to CX but I doubt it is if it involves another carrier.

Oh yes.. I do know that Commuter Terminal well... !

But you could always return to the main terminal - ie T4. They'll let you back there especially if you tell them you need to get something to eat or else you'll faint.

No those WITCHES said stay in the confines of the AE area because they might change the flights etc.... and because I don't want to miss anything I had to stay there! What a joke!

I am avoiding the BOS-JFK segments from now on.
This time I am deliberately travelling from BOS-ORD-JFK in order to avoid the horror again

Oh yes.. I didn't know you were in BOS. Yes the BOS Commuter Terminal is dreadful. I thought you were in the LAX one. Now, now, just because someone is doing their job, is no reason for you to call them WITCHES.

Besides WITCHES are nice friendly people and not what you might conjure them to be. I should know. Some of my best friends here in Vancouver are witches! :D

Calling those gat attendants witches = a compliment to them! They have NO idea about anything and they were NOT doing there job. I wouldn't call chatting with your colleagues and screaming @ Pax = part of your job? But may be you are right! It is part of their job to make pax miserable and drive to company into the shi&s

Since it is malaysian (CX code share) with the 55 min connection- it is NOt valid according to CX

Yes they told me in advance (roughly one hour before walking out the door for the airport)
