US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Is it sensible to purchase US ticket for 45 days away?

Need to fly IND-LGA from 10/27 to 10/31. Was thinking of flying US for $136 RT nonstop. Could fly ATA for $50 more or NW for $6 more but connect in DTW outbound and nonstop on return. I guess I am leaning to NW as I am a poor student. Would have flown US if I were sure it would be honored. Even if other airlines are required to honor it may not work to my schedule of classes, so the sure thing on NW sounds good and only waste 2 hours total. Plus no RJ on the outbound.

Read the zillion and one other threads.

To summarize -- you have nothing to fear. Especially in the 45 day window.

I'll take off my NW hat, and put on my Mileage Plus hat.......

Personally, for $6 - or $20, or $30 extra I'd buy myself the peace of mind and buy the ticket on someone else. If you purchase a ticket on USAir, you're going to come home everyday and check the news and the internet to see if they are still flying......It will drive you nuts for the next 45 days. I'd pay the $6 and be done with it....

(Besides, (NW hat back on) if you haven't been through the NW terminal in DTW, you'll be very pleasantly surprised.) ;)

The prior post seems to be in complete disagreement with experts such as Randy and Boyd Consulting. Three to six months is quite safe at this point.

See Tom Bascom, above, for the most accurate opinion.

Yeah, that's a pretty good one ;)

Anyhow... the OP seems to be a steady US flier who might be chasing elite status. That could also enter into the equation.

I agree that passing through DTW if you haven't been there lately is worth a couple of bucks. US could pick up some pointers there ;) But a couple of extra hours taking the connection enters into the calculation too.

I wouldn't make this decision based on fear of liquidation. I'd make it the same way that I would have made it 6 months ago.
