I've got 8 weeks of work coming up in ATL. Just looked at the flights and noticed that most PHL to/from ATL are the the E70 jets. How is the overhead space on these planes? Can I fit a rollaboard or are the overheads tiny like the CRJs? Can you gate check bags on these planes for return at gate on arrival or do you need to check luggage at the counter?

Having to check a bag and deal with the "system" in PHL & ATL could be the "straw" on my use of US for these flights...

Thanks!

the real issue for Atlanta has nothing to do with USairways, it's the horrible lines in security. A total nightmare the last time i was there, just arrive early to ensure you don't miss your flight.

Sorry i can't help on the e70's though my friend flew one recently and loved it

No matter what airport, I shoot for being in the security line 1:30 mins before my flight... Do you think that is early enough to cover in ATL?

The overhead bins are smaller than full size plane, but not like the RJ's. On the flight I was on recently smaller rollalongs fit in although a bit cramped. I was able to gate check my bag from PHL to ATL. Way back was 737 so didn't matter.

Yes. And they do have an elite line, but it can be hard to find. It is off to the left side of security.

Standard size roll aboards should fit with no problem, I was able to fit mine, which is on the big size anyway but happened to be really stuffed, on a recent flight.

I just returned from ATL yesterday (7am) and both the preferred/cattle security lines were not long at all. I arrived at 7:00am was at the gate by 7:15am. Even when ATL was going through security issues back in June with extremely long lines, the longest I waited in line(preferred) was 15 mins.

I managed to barely stuff my larger-than-standard-rollaboard-but-smaller-than-standard-garment-bag Tumi "Slim Garment Bag" bag into the E70 bin after trying all 4 configurations, so it will hold something that's about 1-2" larger in each dimension. 23x40x4 are the measurements, so I imagine it's about 23x18x10 when closed and stuffed. It's the 18" deep that's a stretch.

A tip - if you're trying to force the door closed due to a tight fit, the bins have flexible hinges so the catch mechanisms won't line up if you're just pushing on the bottom. Reach up and pull down from the top of the door to get it closed. I taught that one to 2 FA's last trip.
