America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Rather Annoying

Am I the only one who is annoyed by what I like to call bait and switch? I mean, come on now--$58/round trip adverstised for a vegas flight 11/12 - 11/14 but of course that's to leave at 8.40 pm Friday and leave LAS 11.45 PM Sunday night, with checkouts being 12 noon it is rather annoying. So for the times I desire my fare is $168/round trip, or about $20 less than a phx-ewr flight. Give me a break. :mad:

It is always more difficult to snag lower fares for the Sunday returns from Las Vegas. I checked out Sabre, and even for that Friday (11/12), the flights look pretty full.

One thing that works well for me a lot of the time is to simply fly standby for an earlier flight. There is no charge, and being Platinum elite will certainly help your chances.

This happens all the time on all airlines. C'mon, if you're Platnum Elite, you've experienced this enough in the past! Plus, it seems that the phx-ewr is really underpriced! ;)

Agreed. I do see it all the time but it doesn't mean I can't vent once in a while!

Supply and demand plain and simple. How can it be called bait and switch. HP did not guarantee that seats at that fare are guaranteed on all flights to/from LAS.

BTW: Hotels let you "check" baggage for free, so you can just leave it at the hotel and spend the day Sunday however you wish. I would rather do this than have to leave at 6am, which is most of the scenarios I am used to, wanting a Sunday evening flight, but only having Sunday early morning available at the lowest fare.

I am shocked -- SHOCKED, I tell you -- that you can't fly from LAS for $29 on the best timed Friday and Sunday flights. I mean, what do you think this is, a charity? There have to be reasonable expectations. Like it's nice for the airline to make enough money to stay in business.

You missed my point. If HP would tell me from the get go that it cost me $168 to get from phx-las I would be fine, but I find it crazy that they advertise $58 fares for times that are obviously not convenient.

OK, let me get this straight. This is a forum to express ones thoughts...isnt that what you BOTH did? Relax everyone, take a chill pill. If you (or anyone else) think they can fly PHX-LAS on a Friday and return on a Sunday for $58.00, think again! Those flights are always booked solid and in fact even overbooked! That's where an airline makes their money.
You also say that HP only has those fares available at inconvenient times...In whose opinion? I work Friday thru Tuesday, those are GREAT times for me to travel and I do so with a $58.00rt fare.
I encourage you to try to drive from PHX to LAS for less than $58.00rt--ain't gonna happen! :D

I don't think I missed your "point." Your point seems to be that if AWA offers $29 fares, they should have them on any flight you wish to take -- even those at the absolutely most peak times (early Friday and Sunday evenings) in a market (Vegas) which is particularly subject to peak and off peak periods. That's simply not a realistic expectation.
