The following is a cut and paste from the CX board where I posted the orignial

For a moderator, B Watson can behaviour in an inmature manner. I am totally shocked by his Private Messages sent to me.

and to insert "big grin" symbols about Richard Quest and his character is not tolerable, especially the way he communicates with me on Private Messages. You should read some of the messages he has sent me. I am totally offended.

B Watson, I seek an apology from you. I will also report this matter to Randy Peterson and I hope he will strip away your priviledges as a moderator on this forum.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but...

Not that anyone really cares, but let me update the saga. Frankly, I have given a fair amount of thought on whether it is appropriate to post this comment publicly, but this individual has caused such aggravation and distraction on the SQ and CX boards over the past year that I believe it requires discussion.

I sent him a PM asking from where he had been posting from over the last few weeks. I then responded to his cities by asking:

1) If he had been in YYZ.TPE and BKK why all posts came from an Australian ISP and;
2) Why he has the same IP address as:

AviAsian
OneWorldFan
SQPPSClub
SQPPSSolitaire
CXCargo
StarAllianceFan
SkyAsia
TigerAirways

These are of course former banned users ID’s that we all know well.

Naturally, I have received no response to my PM (unless you count the post above)

I am electing to air this dirty linen in public since this singe user has continuously been attacking various members of this board. I have received emails and PM’s from people saying that they no longer what to visit the SQ and CX board as a result of this user. I will simply not allow a single recalcitrant individual to dilute the value of this incredible tool and cause angst in what is a rather close community here on SQ and CX.

In the past I have been too slow to act in dealing with this person and I apologize to you all for my failure to decisively and quickly resolve the matter. In the future I will instantly ban any new users from this IP address (it is shared by no other “legit” FT members) and will work the FT administration to block that IP from registering again.

Thank you for your understanding – FYI – I am cross posting this to CX as well

All things considered you are probably taking the best course of action. One suggestion, however, is that you might want to find out who belongs to the IP address. It may be a legit ISP or a corpoaration and then make your decision from there. I don't know how to do this but I'm pretty sure it can be done.

Also, FWIW, I have been all over the world and accessed the internet and FT by dialing into my corporate server and using their pipe to the internet. So, my IP address would always show the same regardless of where I was when I dialed in.

Thanks BWatson.

What a shame on this prick. You might even consider publicizing his IP. The computer savys here can take the avenge to their on hands and proceed to further "actions".

Too bad this burden is falling on your shoulders. I agree that the high quality of these boards can be diluted significantly by a random few and appreciate your efforts.

Good job. ^ ^ Can't you block his IP address? Not much help depending on his connection type, but since you were able to identify it in the first place ... just a thought.

B. Watson, you handled this with a level of class that this person may not deserve. How unfortunate that such people have nothing better to do than to belittle others :o

I think it's time to add Boeing Dreamliner to the above list next....

Isn't there anything FlyerTalk can do about annoyances like this?

Already done - I am open to suggestions on how to end this little game with our troll?

Already done - I am open to suggestions on how to end this little game with our troll?

Easy. During the registration process, ask a simple skill testing question where correct answer is required prior to successful registration.

I'm sure question such as "What is (2+4/2)?" will deter this specific problem FT member. :D

I suggest entering a credit card number when registring for the first time. Then upon ADDRESS verification, advise the card holder that upon breaking FT T&C, the poster gets charged something like $10. The more serious the offence, the higher the fine. Right up to being banned, thereby the card will be charged $1000.

I realize your post was written half in jest. And there should be some way to deal with the trolls (I think they already track IP numbers). However, the TOS are not applied evenly on every forum. For instance, on the AA forum people were upset about 'cheeky' double-entrendre thread headlines like 'FA touched my warm nuts", while on BA that sort of post is de rigeur.

Clearly there are issues here that need to be addressed and I will be happy to take your thoughts to the Talk Team - as Randy has said several times, FT exists to serve the members . Those of us who are helping administer the board view that we are basically acting as trustees to an asset that you control and drive. Therefore, I appreciate your comments and will make sure that they receive discussion.

Just reminiscing....

Updating from B Watson's original list:

AviAsian
OneWorldFan
SQPPSClub
SQPPSSolitaire
CXCargo
StarAllianceFan
SkyAsia
TigerAirways

We have since seen the original OneworldFan incarnated to:
BoeingDreamliner
SQ773ER

With the latest additions of:
CyberNet
VoiceofAAdvantage

The question is why does he keep coming back worse than his previous predecessor? So when do you think he'll appear again?

The @$$hole is going to keep showing up. even if we block his IP, he'll go to another computer, and you get the picture.

Maybe his psychoses increase the more he is ignored...

I know you know what I mean - a child screaming for attention, and then getting louder as it realises it's not working...

Oh well - but there is a 'familiarity' about him which allows for a quick diagnosis, with the catheter of 'banned' to follow shortly thereafter..

It's a shame that he has to pour his sadness out in such torrents of anger, knowing that it will be ignored, and, more often than not, unsubtley ridiculed.

Blurring reality with the www is a cause for deep concern..

Interesting. Kind of the same way B Watson got weirder and weirder and more aggressive in his posts as time went on. I've re-read a lot of his posts, just for clues, and there is a marked degradation in the quality and tone of his posts over time. Definitely, in retrospect, someone under tremendous stress and pressure.

I dunno... I know that he was sometimes difficult to get hold of. We kinda PM one another to see where we are and to see if can meet up somewhere.. but sometimes he'd answer right away, and sometimes it feels as though he is ignoring me.

And with the good ol' US of A freedom of information rules you can now hear some of his last words here: http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=2631342

And I have to say that this is not a good advertisement for Freedom of Information as practised in the US. I knew this guy and I actually feel some empathy with his mindset. But there's no possible value in publishing 911 tapes like this.

And it's pretty rare for me to be reduced to tears by something on the 'net...

I've got a few tools he didn't have thought he was a smart guy and probably figured a few things out. We'll do our best to try and not have these members interupt your use of FlyerTalk. The best thing you can do is stay on topic so that our efforts to assit you are not interupted. As noted from B Watson, there is a lead to and Australian ISP and i have a few ideals i'm working on. Thanks for yuor understanding. Feel free to report any additional "problem FT members" to me.

I think there is some scope for psychological research here.. Disseminating the posts, chronologically, to see how Mr Watson's perspective altered over time...
If there are any 'obvious' changes in tone/temperament, then the timing of the relevant post(s) could be cross-referenced to his professional issues, and possibly provide some clues to what was happening...

I believe Musicologists are doing something similar with the music of Ravel. Certain behavioural/sexuality issues have been un-earthed, and his music written around that time is being analysed for patterns. There is hope of finding motifs or themes, (or harmonic structure), which will provide an insight into how he was thinking. The actual issues under analysis are not for a public forum, however...

RandyNote that CyberNet was the name of Mr. Watson's company. Perhaps this was either connected to that outfit, or more likely, someone who was alienated from it? This may (or may not) be something to turn over to the pertinent authorities.

It would not be the first time that real-world personal animosities have spilled over to FlyerTalk (and vice versa).

Likewise, an analysis of the posts by B Watson may indeed reveal insight into his state of mind that may have evidentiary value in civil or criminal cases arising out of this affair.

Finally, as someone who just learned of the demise of the late moderator, I might ask if it would be possible to unlock the thread in this forum that was moved to Community?

Beyond discussion of his alleged fraud, which is a national issue affecting many, many people (other than Flyer Talkers), I would suspect that the issue of depression arises more among heavy computer users than those with well-balanced lives.

The continuation of the now-locked thread could serve as a support to other Flyer Talkers who are having problems out there, and out of his suicide, some good preventative efforts in the Flyer Talk community may arise.

You can see that we tried that, but with the realization that we would have to edit/delete/,moderate that thread on a mnute-by-minute basis, came to the conclusion that we really did not have enough time to devote all our resources to that single thread.

However, the issue is more to do with posting habits. Dissecting this members' suicide or business practices is hardly a matter in the CX or BA or SQ forums I would say. FlyerTalk does not prohibit such discussion, merely it seeks to remind members of staying on topic as well as posting to the correct forum. If any members here would like to pursue these types of topics, there are threads in OMNI where these discussions are going on right now.

Here's one:
http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=376280

I think I've addressed the topic of this thread to let you know we are continuing our vigilance as started by B Watson to protect members of FlyerTalk from unruly members who seem to show no regard for the rights of other members.

Thanks for your understanding.
