On my return from HKG (CX882) a couple of days ago, I was the last person standing in front of the conveyour belt at LAX dreading the realization that my bag wasn't going to come out. After several minutes of denial and walking the entire baggage claim area, I filled out the missing bag report shortly thereafter.
It's now 2 days later and my bag hasn't turned up. The CX office won't even answer the phone as it goes straight to voice mail.
What are your experiences with CX's losing bags and stuff?

So did you actually talk to the CX representative at baggage claim area and ask what was going on? Or did you just fill the form, and took off?
In anyways, you can trace your baggage here:
http://www.worldtracer.aero/filedsp/cx.htm
which is a direct link from CX website and their policies at

good luck

Sorry to note worldtracer is (was, in our case) useless.
Cathay boarded two of three of our bags at DXB, in from LHR on BA, bound for BKK. The third stayed behind. At BKK, there is very little Cathay presence; we eventually found out that TG handles them, and filed a report. The TG staffer immediately got on his computer and noted that the missing bag was in fact still on the ground in Dubai, took our contact, and assured us they'd deliver it ASAP. He also gave us the worldtracer link, and his own desk's phone contact.
As days went by, we noted that the bag wasn't turning up in our hotel, and worldtracer kept saying "bag located." We'd call Thai, and they'd look in their computer and tell us where our wandering bag was that day. Back in London, once. Four days later, Cathay put it on their service to BKK via BOM, and we picked it up on our next pass through BKK on day five. Worldtracer never changed its greeting. Probably still says that today.
I thought it was pretty unlike the Cathay I'd come to love the way they handled the thing. I hear DXB is a tough place to do business, but I'd be reluctant to believe it's all EK's doing. I thought it unusual that Cathay routed it on their own metal, too - TG operates the route non-stop daily. I haven't bothered to contact them after the fact - the worldtracer form has a place for a comment, which I filled out once, and never got a reply (though it seems that Cathay sometimes takes months to reply.) So live and learn, though I guess I'm not going to forego Cathay service over a bag.

Well, I got a call today from a delivery company saying that they needed to confirm my address so that they could deliver my bag. So I guess they found it. Neither the CX office contacted me (they didn't have ANY info on this bag) nor the tracking system had any information. It just "turned up". Weird...
On the day of my arrival, I just filled out the form with a guy who was standing there processing a claim for someone else. He assured me that my bag was going to make it on the next flight from HKG. Since I don't understand how the baggage system works, I took the information as credible enough for me to go home. After 12 hours inside a slaveship I just wanted to go home anyway.
I'm just happy that I got my stuff back. :)
