Showing up in a couple of places. Froogle seems to have improved over the last year or so, though it's still in beta.

Thanks for that, Shure must have just dropped the price, as they were still around $110 last week.

Now, if only the E3c would come down a bit, like 120$ I prefer the E2c form factor, but can definitly hear the differance in sound b/w E2 and E3. Depends on source of course, On older crappy 96kb mp3, I don't find the differance too noticeable, but on 192, or AAC, then I can notice the differance.

I wonder if a new model is coming out, or they are worried bout competition.

Shure really needs to get their products in more stores, places like Bestbuy and Compusa would be great for them.

OK, I've read the reviews in ZDnet of both E2c and E3c and sad to say I still don't really know the real difference between the two, except of course in price.

Can someone tell me the difference between the two in plain English. Put it another way, is the 2:1 price differential worth whatever extra you get from the E3c? Thanks!

If depends on what sort of listening/audiophile you are and how picky you and your hearing is.

The E3c will offer a great frequency response, somewhat lower lows, but a broader and higher range of highs, technically and in my opinion.

Do you listen to MP3's. Have you even listened to the differance between 64, 96, 128, 192 KB Mp3"s, AAC and could you tell the differance? If you could, then the E3c are going to allow you to actually hear the available reproductions of sound better, mostly in the higher ranges. Singing, timber, brass, voice, strings, percussion, etc.

I don't find any of these in ear phones to offer great low range response, but I don't know if I want that too loud that close to my ear anyways.

My #1 1K GF, cannot tell the differances between such things so it doesn't matter to her at all. for some people that is fine. For me, I can tell the differance between not only these two pairs, but WITHIN two sets of the same pair.

But, I hear things like CRT's in the other room that are on, with no signal. I can hear the automatic movement of a rolex from another room, if it is set on a glass table for example. the heartbeat of a hummingbird for example.

Okay, maybe not the last one.

Best best, would be to buy both and send one back. the company listed above has a good policy for returns, no 15% restocking fee, etc. You just have to pay the shipping back to them.

am i going to notice the differnce on the the plane?

basically i used some plain sony earbuds when i am at a client site and working away, but i need to be able to hear people calling me.

and on the plane, i just use foam earplugs, but I guess sometimes I'd actually want to watch the movie or something, so will I notice the diff listening to a DVD or the airline speakers or even my iPOD with the 3's vs the 2's?

also will the have the same sound attn. as foam earplus when i am not listening to music?

TIA

I can tell the difference, and for me its worth the extra for the E3's.

Some other differences that have not been mentioned are the 10dB higher sensitivity of the E3 over the E2 (105dB vs 115dB) and the E3's can take custom ear sleeves as well as the fit-kit supplied.

The higher sensitivity means more sound volume for the same output volume setting. As many amplifiers, especially simple inexpensive ones, have poor noise characteristics at higher output levels, being able to operate at lower output level can mean less amplifier hiss.

Custom ear molds are probably not at all important to you.

Similar isolation from external sound. The Shure E2 and E3 are both supplied with the same "fit kit" which consists of three different size sleeves, each of two different materials. The clear sleeves are a little firmer than the grey sleeves. You also get one set of yellow compressible foam sleeves which are made of the same material as most airline-supplied ear plugs. These foam ones can be purchased in bulk if you really like them, but for most people the clear or grey supplied sleeves will provide a good seal.

Shure also sell tripple-flange sleeves for even greater isolation, but these are not normally required for airline use.

Note that the sound isolation and the low frequency response are dependent on the seal that is made between the sleeve and your ear canal. The better the seal, the better the isolation and the low-frequency response you will hear. So choose the sleeve that fits your ears the best. I use the smallest size grey ones for best results in my ears.

Also note that there is no audio difference between the E3 and E3c models. The "E3c" is the "consumer" package, while the E3 is the professional package. You get exactly the same accessories (zip case, fit kit). The only difference is the colour of the buds, with the E3c being white and the E3 being grey, supposedly for lower visibility for stage performers.

I actually prefer Etymotic Research's in-ear headphones. They fit my ears better. Sound quality is about the same. www.etymotic.com

They are available through SkyMall but clearly overpriced at $99. ;)

A while back I picked the e2cs on eBay for around $70 with free shipping. They were brand new and I've had no problems with them so far.

A word of caution with the carrying case that comes with the earphones. People claim that using that zippered, circular case puts too much strain on the wires coming out of the earpieces and sometimes causes damage to the connections.
