Hi,
Is anybody using phonelike handhelds, like the Palm Treo 600 or the iPAQ h6340? I am toying with the idea of getting the iPAQ, but HP's homepage has very dire information. Which GSM frequency bands does the iPAQ h6340 support, also the U.S.' frequency of 1900MHz?
Please, share your experiences with me regarding this gizmos. :)

Stay clear of the 6315/6340, it's a total POS.
I had one this weekend and it's currently so bad that it's simply not usable.
I know that the US version of the 63XX (the 6315) is quad band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900), AFAIK the 6340 was going to be triband (GSM 900/1800/1900).

Scott, I was all set to buy this thing ( at least until I saw info on BB7100). What is wrong with the 6315? I was impressed in the demo by: wifi; bluetooth; clear screen and a few other things. Can you tell me the details of what you think is wrong?
Thanks

I have been using my Treo 600 (Sprint) for 2-3 months. For me, it has been the greatest productivity advancement in my fairly non-illustrious career. The ability to utilize e-mail in otherwise down times has been invaluable. Just yesterday (Friday), I received an e-mail from a customer at 4:30pm as I was boarding a plane. I called my office before 5pm, placed their order and saved at least three days. Should hurricane Ivan toy with southern Florida, it could end up being more time.
Having never used a BlackBerry, I can’t address similarities or differences; but, I think they are essentially the same. I almost got the BlackBerry phone offered by Nextel, but Nextel is horrible in the Miami area.
I love the ability to sync with Outlook, access the internet when necessary, view calendars while on the phone and keep “running dialogue” on SMS messages as opposed to only viewing the most recent message.
I know the Sprint Treo does not work in South Africa, but I think it works in many other countries.
A word of advice: if you place international calls from your cell phone while in the US, try Gorilla Mobile (www.gorillamobile.com). Even with Sprint’s “discounted” international plan, their rates are absurd.

The sprint and verizon version of the treo does not support GSM, so it will not work in many countries. It's 1.9 and 800 CMDA only.
The AT&T, Cingular, T-mobile version is a quad band GSM, which will work pretty much all over the world depending on your service agreements.
Lots of times the same phone is available in different bands depending on the provider. I've often wondered if any of them were the same phone, that you could switch from one set to another with hidden keyboard commands or something.

It's unreliable (hangs all the time). RF is terrible, it's bluetooth implementation is dreadful and it can't even do decent voicedialing.
