View Full Version : New Infiniti G35 rental policy?

I was told this evening that the Hertz rental policy has been changed for the G35. I was told that in order to rent this car, you reservation has to be specifically for this car. There will no longer be upgrades or exchanges for this car. Is this true?

If true, that sucks then. I have a rental upcoming for Saturday, and I was thinkin' of paying the upgrade to get it.

At places like MKE, how the heck can you request it specifically anyway? Sometimes, there's no option even for a Premium. :td:

It seems to me that Hertz is changing policy that does not benefit most of their Gold members. I wonder if there are that many people that this new policy is going to be successful. I realize that there are people that rent the Presitge cars but most don't relying on UGs. I suppose it does not matter as I am bound to rent from Hertz. I have to say that their policies and customer service has become lower quality over the past couple of years. :td:

In MEM, I always reserve F and find a Vic or TC in my spot. I ask for a G35 and get one, for an additional $15/day.

I imagine she's going to Prestige. I admit I was surprised when she was first classified as a YG - I'd think the new Maxima (in GLS form) would be that class.

It's a nice car, but I tend to prefer the Lincoln LS for performance and comfort - especially at the Prestige prices the G35 often goes for if you try and book it directly.

I had a G35 in PHX this past weekend and was told upon renting it that (hopefully just for that location) all the G35s were being returned to Hertz and I was probably going to be the last driver to have one in PHX.

Like I said, I hope that's not true.

Who told you this? A rental location or the Hertz reservation line?

I was told this by the evening station manager at Atlanta International Airport . She told me that a message on the computer screen stated as much when the G35 was pulled up. There had been no announcement from Hertz Corporate but the screen said it all.

How can you book a G35 directly? Never saw it on the Hertz website?

This decision was apparantly made this week. No notification on website, as I told the station manager in Atlanta. She said that the offices were not notified. She read a note on the screen when she pulled up a G35 for me. Then she told me she could not rent the car. After some discussion, I must have persuaded her to rent it to me. Viola, this might be my last G35.

Besides, what else do you expect from Hertz but a stealth announcement when a bad policy decision has been made. Pretty tacky.

A lady snatched up a nice G35 up right before me this mornin'. I didn't hear anything about not renting them unless you had a res for it specifically.

The CSR, a very helpful lady, woulda gave it to me for $30/day extra, which I could have handled since I got a sweet Mazda 6 w/sports package for $56 all in for two days anyway.

I'm *this* close to a G35....this close. I can smell it. :D :D :D

The new classification for the G35 is H class. I am sure that this will be a known policy in the near future. :(

What does "H" class correlate to in words?

I've been getting one as my PC upgrade from an "F" (Full Size / Taurus) every week for the last 4 weeks at IAH.

Better then Premium (G class) but not as good as Luxury (I class)?

What "H" class means is that your G35 upgrade days are about over. This is unfortunate but this is where Hertz corporate decided to take this car. :td: Sorry for the bad news. I wish I were wrong about this.

I guess I was kind of expecting this to happen anyways. IMO, the G is much better than the Grand Marquis, not to mention easier to park.

The last few that I have rented have already had 15K+ miles and shown some wear and tear (smoked in, stains, ect).

Now that the G35 rates seem to be on par with the S80s that are newer and in much better shape, I'm leaning towards those.

I got another G35 last night for the week. YAY!

On my invoice from last week it shows:
Charged: F
Rented: H
Reserved: F

They have all had over 15k on the odometer, but I'm ok with that if everything works. The one I got last week had almost 18k miles and was smokey. The one I got this week has almost 16k miles, doesn't smell, but has an intermittent low tire pressure warning light and doesn't have any windshield washer fluid.

I'm still happy to get it over any of the other free upgrade options. I think the G35 is a much better drive than the S80.

i just picked up a G35 at houston for the week -- the keychain still says YG. 18k miles, but seems to be in good condition. wonder if some of the higher-mileage cars will stay in the upgrade rotation... it's a detroit-based car, so it's pretty far from home... (if they gave me a G35 at detroit, i'd go back in and ask for a ford... :-) )

I have to agree here. If I know I am going to be at our office and NOT at a Big 3 site, I will take the G35. However, I usually try to take a vehicle that is made by the manufacturer. I will take a Taurus if I have to. Lincoln LS is better. :D

I had to settle for an upgrade to an S-Type ($20/day extra) this weekend in SAN after being told they didn't have G35s available for rental.

The guy that processed the upgrade said they only have four or five at their location and mentioned that Hertz wants them to remove the G35s from their fleet when they hit 15-16K miles in order to try to sell them at the Hertz Car Sales division. This is in contrast to the 25-26K miles when other models are removed.

As usual, YMMV in terms of mileage on the cars you receive.

Oh yes, I was told that last night. I saw a G35 in the spot next to mine, went back in to ask for it only to be told it was not in their system. I even offered to pay an upgrade charge but still to no avail. I don't understand how it could be in the President's Circle spot and not in their system (or assigned to anyone).

I got another G at ORD over this last weekend, but found a white Grand Marquis in my spot at IAH Monday morning. That ended my streak of 6 or 7 G35 rentals in a row.

I traded the Grand Marquis for a Solara, which I later had to return because it stank and was really dirty. Inside and out. When I returned later that day, they claimed to not have any cars remaining so they gave me a Ford Escape.

My understanding is that they are suppose to trade up when they do something bad, not down.

I don't know if my image can stand driving the Ford Escape for the week. ;)

Long story, but no, not trying to buck the system. Actually I was showing a friend around FT (more members the merrier correct?) and she had rental car interests. That is how we came upon this thread.
Now I have a question for RobotDoctor: What is Tubbyworld and how does one become platinum?

You have to attend a Seattle event, SEA DO or a dinner, and get invited back to fredmartens' home for a dip in his hot tub. You get elite status if his dog likes you. :D

I picked up a rental yesterday that I had reserved in G and when I asked if they had anything besides a Crown Vic, like an Avalon, the girl gave me an Avalon, but told me they too have been moved to a different class, the same H class the G35 is in. Of course, who knows how long the Avalons will be around, they seem to be getting scarce and the one I got had 26,600+ miles on it.

I know this post is from Sept 04, but I wanted to respond anyway. My law school graduation is in a few weeks, so my mom, in all her great wisdom, wants to drive the G35 for this special occassion (more like me driving but hey, I'm not complaining.) Anyway, we went to LGA and was told you CAN'T make a reservation for the G35, they are unreservable. So after a few mins speaking with the reps, they have agreed to find / hold a G35 for my mom and I. We already have 2 reservations (my 5* and her regular reservation), so I'll let you guys know if I get the G35.

Also, I had a Dodge Stratus cut off on me while I was parking 2 weeks ago. I went to the NYC 90th St. location, and was giving the option of either an Avalon or G35 (it was gold with tan leather interior - was the sexiest car I have ever seen), but was told I would have to pay $200 to drive the car for 4 hrs (I was home only for the weekend, and was on my way to a concert, so I wasn't driving until the next morning when I went back to school). Of course, I was irrate, the car cut off on me, I didn't make it cut off. The mgr told me the Avalon and G35 are the same luxury class (I have never seen the Avalons at any Hertz, not even when I fly to ATL), and I love driving Toyotas. When I returned the Stratus to Lebanon, NH location, the mgr basically gave me 2 free rentals. She couldn't understand why NY wanted to charge me more for a car that was having problems, when the car should have been exchanged for whatever was availble. Also, NY told me the Stratus is a full size car, but NH has it as a midsize car.

I'm sure going to miss going to school in VT. By far, hands down, the Lebanon, NH Hertz is the best location. The reps there always bend over backwards to ensure I'm happy.

Just wanted to follow up to my original post:

I spoke with a Hertz Rep (via phone) yesterday about my Hertz profile. I asked about the G35 rental policy. The Hertz Rep said the G35s are reservable, as the cars are considered in the "H" Class when you are making reservations online. The "H" Class is considered the BMWs (I never saw a BMW in ATL, LGA or 90th St in NYC) and Jags.

I'm just hoping I can rent a G35 for my graduation. My mom rented one the other day from LGA for Mother's Day.

H class is "Premium Import" Toyota Avalon, Infiniti G35, and Kia Amanti.

As far as I've seen, you can not reserve the G35 specifically. You can select "Toyota Avalon or Similar, Premium-Special, Auto Trans-Air Con" which is the H class.

So even if you reserve an H class, you might get the Toyota or Kia.
