I checked in tonight for a flight tomorrow via web check-in. It's the first time I've done it in a few weeks. I see that they've finally added the ability to select or change seats via a seatmap. Graphically, it's not the cleanest seat map, but they've finally got it up and running -- that's what counts. This will make web check-in a much better tool.

Edited to add: You can also select or change seats for your return flight(s)
at the time you check-in for your outbound flight(s) -- that's nice! ^

I also noticed that they reduced the number of hours you can check in on-line prior to your flight from 30 hours to 24 hours. I don't know when that change happened either.

Ok, but pax should be able to change their seats at any time. I love AA's seat assignment tool.

I second that. I was hoping that the same feature would be enabled on the page where you can retrieve your electronic reservations, but it isn't there. Hopefully that will be next. Nonetheless, it's a step in the right direction.

They made this change a few weeks ago. However, just recently (last few days) was this spelled out on the website.

I agree that the next step should be to be able to do this at any time. I'm curious if it also allows you to switch to an exit row the day of the flight.

All airlines have had to reduce the allowable time for advance check-in to 24 hours. This makes our skies much safer.

Today when using web check-in, there was 'finally' the option to change your seat assignment.

However, when I checked the box, there were no other available seats in F.
I was happy with my original seat assignment (2B) and just think that F is full.

Very glad they got this working. ^

Yes, it's a great feature! We can continue discussion about this in this existing thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348501).
