Air New Zealand Air Points - Star alliance award - transfer in another zone
A rather stupid question I guess, but just to be sure...
Let's say I want to redeem an award with Star Alliance Europe 2- Europe 2 which only costs 25000 points.
The problem is, though, there are no countries from city A (in zone Europe 2) to city B (in zone Europe 2) without going via a third city C, which is in Europe 1.
Will I have to get a Europe 2 - Europe 1 award? Or maybe even one of each for a total amount of 75000 points per person?

After checking with Air NZ, the agent said that if you are going from City A to City B within Europe 1, you should not need to go to Europe 2. Not having precise information with which to work, the response is a generalization. Whether the same would apply to travel between two cities in Europe 2 would have to be verified with Air NZ.
The information regarding Star Alliance awards on the Air NZ web site does show that if one is crossing zones and doing a stopover, additional miles may be required. I would recommend you contact Air NZ directly either by phone or email with the exact itinerary you are attempting to use your Airpoints on.

I dont know but guess it would require Eur2-Eur1 and Eur1-Eur2. :( Please update us on what you find out.

Thank you for your replies! I will send an email to Airpoints UK service centre tonight to get some clarification in this, but I do fear that you may be right, KiwiFlyer...

I understood that the rules were that you would have to get a Europe 1 - Europe 2 award (i.e. 50K) in a situation like this, rather than 2 separate awards. Will be interested to hear the outcome.
Just out of curiosity, what is the city pair you are trying to fly between?

Applying a similar logic does that mean AKL to ADL (via SIN as no direct route) costs the same as AKL-SIN?
