I'm at 15.5 credits for my next RR award, are there any "deals" out there that will net me 0.5 credits for peanuts?

Check weekend car rental rates. Depending on where you are you may be able to get 0.5 credits for less than $25.

I second the car rental suggestion. I got 1.5 with Hertz by renting at a Local Edition in my home town, and the grand total was $20.12 for the weekend. And I put 150 miles on their car instead of mine.

I'm planning on renting every weekend this fall.

Good luck and enjoy your free ticket.

another vote for car rental for .5 credit. If you want to start on another free flight try a one night stay at Econolodge or Rodeway Inn and earn 1.5 credits for a cheap price.

I agree with the car rental (although I can't find Dan Burgess' $20 weekend rate :( ) if you don't already have the VIsa card or don't have time to wait for the Visa credits to post.

I'll add that on the rental cars, it's pretty easy to find a cheap one-day that gets you the standard (.5) credit even without published specials - a combination of cheap weekend rates and discount codes/coupons that don't involve bonus credits (yeah, I realize that suggestion is probably heresy around here) - should get you something for taxes, fees, etc. for $25 or less easy.

Econolodge or Rodeway Inn looks likes the best deal right now, but some of their dirt cheap hotels really look sketchy. Maybe now's the time to host some of those family or friends who have been promising to visit but who you're not really looking forward to seeing - you have a place to put them up and there's a good chance they won't want to come back again anytime soon.

Thanks. I already have the Visa and get several free tickets annually once everything is added up. i just have a particular incentive for wanting this one ASAP.

The great thing about the hotels is if you find a good rate in your home town you can just go check in but not actually stay at the hotel. I'd only do this if there was a great bonus offer, and generally the weekend car rental is a better deal for me. Another nice thing about the car rentals is you can have an extended test drive if you're thinking about buying a new car, and get miles in the process.

Find the name of a person staying at a partner hotel, call the hotel and tell them you are that person and that you want your RR # attached to your room charge. :D

For anyone in the Indianapolis area, here's a very scary Econo Lodge (http://www7.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?sid=l$gog.2$7fAlBNA.7&hotel=IN069&sarea=85421&sname=Indianapolis&sstate=IN&scountry=US&sradius=40.22&slat=39.76679992675781&slon=-86.15850067138672&schain=A&exp=&scity=Indianapolis&sort=&srp=STD) that is returning rates under $30.

Would recommend checking in but not actually staying here, though (if you do, maybe a report on the in-hotel dining/bar options - Benders and the Rum Keg?)

This is the scariest one I've ever seen - I think each room comes with its own dead hooker under the bed...

Pulllease......I live in Bloomington, IN and we have our very OWN creepy-as-hell EconoLodge. I don't need to go out of town to enjoy sleeping on a soiled matress in a room with a broken TV while two transvestite strippers set up their meth lab in the next room.

If you happened to collect Hertz #1 Club points, then you can transfer 600 points to get one rapid reward credit - and it's free!

This is one of the few places you can freely 'store' a stash of points for conversion as needed. Just credit the long car rentals there, and grab credits directly on short or cheap trips.

Call Bank one and move your due up, forcing the statement to close now, if you have at least 1200.00 to earn one credit. They normally post fast. You are allowed to change due dates, once every 6 months.

As far as I know, you can only DELAY the due date, not advance it, when you change the closing day of the month. This strategy may backfire.

nsx is correct (again). You can't move the due date up because there is a minimum grace period BankOne must follow with the Terms of the card. By moving the date up, you shorten the grace period.

I need 0.5 credit as well, but I don't know what kind of lead time is necessary for hotel stays to post. I know for flights its the activity date and not the posting date that matters, so can I assume the same thing applies to hotels?

For example, let's say I make a hotel stay on 12/20 for 0.5 credit (or possibly more). My credits start expiring on 12/30 (actually I lose 4 in one day). If the hotel credit does not post until sometime after 12/30, is it correct that the system will restore the expired credit and still issue the award?

I wish Southwest would just offer another online survey like they did last year :D

Correct. Was this not clear in the FAQ?

There was a survey this year, but targeted. It was by invite only with a special access code. I was surprised no one here got it. I am guessing that it was completely random.

I just had that happen. I saw my credits dwindle down to about 8, then poof, my 2 credits from Hertz posted, back-dated a few weeks, and the award was issued.

It works the other way also. I once earned an award, and had all the credits deducted from my account. Then a hotel credit from a few weeks back appeared. I had 1 year from the date of the hotel credit to earn the other 15.5 points - even though the award was issued after that date.

I have a UA MP VISA, its card memeber agreement says the cardmember can
choose the statement closing date. I guess this rule could also apply to WN VISA. :D

lassen2545, they won't move the due date up, they'll just extend the due date out. For example, today is November 21. Your next due date will be December 20, and you want to move it up to December 5th. Since this does not meet the minimum grace period, they'll say "okay" and change the due date, but now your next due date will be January 5th. This is why some credit card companies only allow you to change a due date once a year, because you effectively skip a payment.

True. You have to stick to the new due day, buy you save your expiring rr points.
Worth it or not?It eventually depends upon individuals' unique situation. I see this is painless, since I always pay off cc and never owe a penny.

I think the original question was to get the credits to post early so it would issue an award prior to expiration date. In my scenerio posted above, the exact opposite would happen. You can still move it up, you just have to allow for the grace period.

Some credit card companies allow you to change your due date once or twice a year. Discover Card, for example, will only allow you to change your due date a second time after 3 billing cycles.
