Targetted offer for a companion award for 1 airpoint NZ to SYD/MEL/BNE/PER. Seems to apply to both biz and econ. Must be booked by 20 Sep 04 for flights 5 Oct 04 to 30 Nov 04. Not combinable with Smart Saver fares, award & industry tickets. Insurance and fuel surcharges apply (presumably tax too although this isnt mentioned). Redundant clause must be booked 7 days before departure.

Any idea who the target is?

Only original recipients of this communication are eligible for this Airpoints Companion Ticket offer.

No idea who targetted to - may be all airpoints members in NZ for all I know (will check with some friends and family to see if they got it too). I have one booking for future travel and have recently travelled to Australia.

Hi guys

Do you know if you have to pay an expensive ticket (full fare) first to be able to book the companion ticket for one Airpoint?

Given that the terms quoted above only exclude Smart Savers (plus the usual industry discount fares etc) presumably a Flexi Saver would be OK, and they aren't too expensive, usually around $269+tax each way.

Incidentally, I see there are trans-Tasman specials ex-New Zealand at the moment, such as flights to SYD from $129 + tax each way, which probably works out as a better deal...

Agree not good value for econ unless cannot get cheapie tix on the flights you want (but companion is available - is this from same bucket as awards?).

However there are also some pretty good deals on biz class currently and combined with 1 airpoint companion represents great value IMHO.

Sorry, I'm a long time listener, first time caller... could someone please tell me what IMHO means? :)

Welcome to FT Trolley Dolley :)

IMHO = in my humble opinion

Awfully remiss of me not welcoming you before. Are you a current or past FA? Curious as to whether we may meet up in the air somewhere someday ...

I'm definitely a ghost of the airline's past. :)

Has anyone tried to book one of these companion deals yet?

The round letter turned up at home the other day. I am a Gold Elite, and my 3 year old daughter, who has zero status both got the letter. But my wife didn't.

My daughter has done one NSN - CHC flight in January on Air NZ and MEL - CNX on Thai this year - has about 20K points.

Just wondering, was your daughter booked as a companion on your ticket? Also, does your wife have her own Airpoints membership?

I suppose your daughter could always save her pocket money and take her mum away for the weekend! : ) (you gotta love a database!)
