...and the beat goes on. Mediocrity in government -- don't you just love it?
A former baggage screener has been charged with stealing about $500 from a passenger while working at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.
A federal grand jury has charged Chad Butler, 33, of Wichita, with one count of theft, the U.S. attorney's office said Wednesday.
Keith Osborn, federal security director at the Wichita airport, said the alleged theft occurred during a random check of baggage at a departure gate beyond the main checkpoint.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren said: "Airport screeners work for the safety of airline passengers. They are given access to the most private aspects of airline passengers to perform that duty.... Those who are accused of abusing that trust will be vigorously investigated and, when warranted, prosecuted."
Melgren also seems to have a grasp of the situation.
