When making a reservation with hertz online, does the Approximate Rental charge include taxes.
I use a 10% off CDP and a rent 2 weekend days get 1 free promo coupon, and my reservation stated an approximate rental charge of $70.
When I returned my vehicle, I was charged $100. I was told the approximate rental charge did not include taxes?

Taxes are always listed on mine.
The approx. charges should list all taxes, fees, and expected surcharges, and most of the time for me, they do. I have had a couple of occasions where whopper airport fees that were not included in the approx charges where assessed. The answer I got is that sometimes the fees/taxes/etc. are not in the computer correctly, and the approximation they give you is not binding.
Did you check your bill to see where the overcharge was? The estimate should have enough of a breakdown to see what the rental rate vs. the other charges are, and you should be able to compare them to see if it was really taxes, or if they jacked your rate, or forgot a coupon.

Mine always match. You probably either didn't get the coupon, got charged a late return fee, or a fuel-not-full charge. I'd bet on the first -- they almost forgot a coupon on me last week.
When I checked in I told them what the total should be and she said "oh yes...I need to put in your coupon". I'm going to stick with that method next time I return to make sure the amount is correct.

I believe it was that the coupon was not taken into account.
I tried to explain this to the clerk in Montreal, but he was not very helpful, and kept on saying that it was only an "approximate charge" and did not include taxes, and that I already had the benefit of the coupon.
I guess I will have to call Hertz tomorrow and have the price readjusted.

I had the same problem on a recent rental in PHL. I took the printout from the web site to the rental desk along with a printout describing the PC code I used. They applied the discount correctly and gave me a new receipt that matched the original approximate rental charge.

I had this problem this weekend, reserved car online on Friday morning and used a PC for $25 off weekend rental. Total charge was supposed to be $83.16, I even called customer service after making online reservation to verify the $83.16 was the total charge. When I returned the car on Sunday evening (on-time and full of gas) I was charged $116. I told the return agent I had a coupon, he said he put it in. I filed a complaint to te billing department this morning, hoping they will make the adjustments.

Hertz in YUL is not the best. Had to get Cust Service involved recently and got a 50% refund to my VISA.

I called Hertz today to try and get the price readjusted, but they told me to go to their web site, and submit a billing query instead, and I would receive a response in 24 hours.
I guess we will see.

Hertz e-mailed me back this morning saying that they will be crediting me back with the difference between the approximate rental charge, and what I was actually charged.

As others have mentioned, the approx total usually match. Also as others have mentioned, the coupon you booked with does not always get applied despite showing up on the rental agreement. I had that happen in SFO. I spotted it as I was walking towards the bus and had them corrected it on the spot. My friend didn't spot the error and had to call Hertz billing to get it corrected.
