Travel Technology - any recommendations for earplugs?
These are for sleeping on planes so no headphones and stuff (if you were thinking Bose et al).
Right now, I'm using the disposable ones in amenity kits but those aren't really designed for long-term use. Prefer soft over hard .. but wondering if anyone has suggestions.

I use these for sleeping : http://www.sbmedco.com/ear_putty.asp If I got a good enough seal, they are excellent.

Go to you local audiologist and get some custom ear molds made into ear plugs of your choice. A bit expensive yes, but will fit your ear perfectly, providing the best comfort and noise isolation possible.

Try Earplanes. They sell them at drug store chains like walgreens. Usually about 6.00 a pair. They seem to do a very nice job and fit the ear very well.

I use disposables that I can purchase at Walgreen's. They are foam, and come in a cone-like shape, and work quite well. I am against reusable earplugs, as they can harbor bacteria and molds, and thus lead to ear infections. You can buy these by the jar, and then just take what you need in a baggie.

I have had two pair of the custom ear molds and find the ear putty more effective in shutting out air conditioner fans and street noise in hotels. I understand the concern about ear infections and therefore a preference for disposables, but I have never had any trouble with the ear putty or the custom ear plugs.

It appears that the main difference in earplugs is reusable vs disposable.. I have ordered some inexpensive Nexcare (3M) reusable earplugs. We'll see how they turn out.
