Air New Zealand Air Points - Stupid question re seat recline in NZ F and C

The NZ site says F recline is 70 degrees and C is 60 degrees. I've never been in intl. F but have been in C on UA. I thought I saw on the UA site that their C recline is 150 degrees, but I can't seem to find the info right now. There's a disconnect here I'm not getting. Can someone enlighten me?

I assuming NZ F is 70 degrees plus 90 degrees with seat upright = 160 total and that C is 60 plus 90 = 150. Sorry for the brain f*rt; it's been a long day. :(

Yes you assume correct.

I dont know why there are the different ways of marketing it. I suppose someone thought 160 degrees just sounds better than 70!

I guess bigger numbers are better. It's the marketing thing.

Thanks again for your help.

I've wondered that before too!

I'm surprised that according to that, UA and NZ have the same amount of recline in C. UA's seat certainly felt like it reclined more, and given the extra 5" of pitch on UA it would seem pretty strange if it didn't...

I really like the UA C seat and sleep fine in it (but then I don't have a lot of trouble sleeping on planes). My son (16) has trouble sleeping on planes, but then he's only ever been in Y. I think he'll do fine in F one way and C the other if the seats are close to UA C.

You will be very comfortable in F, your son will be fine in C.

I find the F seat to be very comfortable. It lays close to flat, is very wide, the legroom is obscene it is so great. If I at 6'4" can get comfy in it, I imagine that most others can.

One tip. If you have a reasonably sturdy roll-on carry on, prop it under the footrest of the seat, you will make the seat more horizontal and more comfortable for sleeping.

For your son suffering in C ;) , have him book an upstairs window seat, the lockers to the sides of the seat make great foot/leg rests.

Enjoy the very warm, friendly NZ service, and the equally friendly hospitality you will find in NZ.

You have a 16 year old boy who has never flown anything but Y and you think he'll want to sleep the first time he flies F?!?

I hope he sleeps as he gets a little stir crazy on long flights. I will be sure to drink his Dom Perignon. :D

The longest he's taken is IAD-BRU and the flight time alone is nearly three times as long going RDU-ORD-LAX-AKL-SYD:

23:07 flight time
8:00 layovers

Wife got a little buggy ORD-HKG (15:50), even in C, so in booking F and assessing the seat comfort I'm trying to ensure I don't arrive in SYD with a couple of basket cases. ;) 22 hour layover in LAX on the outbound is a possibility. We have an overnight in LAX on the return as we arrive with too small a window to clear customs.
