undefinedI could not find much in my search of the forums. Mrs SAnger3494 & I are looking to travel in Gremany and Switzerland next year. Is getting gold worth it for *wood properties for Europe, i.e. preferred rooms, upgrades, executive levels?. We have not used *Wood in Europe as to what we should expect? I am aware of availabilty and each location works different. Looking at Munich, Zurich, Geneva as for three nights in each area.
Thanks again for everyones input and thoughts.

In my experience, Gold is of little benefit other than getting a 4pm checkout. If I've gotten an upgraded room, it is non obvious. I've never gotten on the executive floor in Europe or anywhere else in the world. Gold simply means I get a few more points and on that 1 out of 30 stays where I need it, I can easily get a late checkout. YMMV

The few times I looked at making *wood reservations in Germany, the hotels also told me that I could expect a points, a newspaper, and late checkout. When I mentioned the possibility of a preferred room at a Frankfurt hotel, the individual had no idea what I meant.

Starwood comped me to platinum and as I've already requalified for Hilton diamond this year, I'm going to start booking more Starwood properties. Going to AMS in Nov. Does platinum make a difference at Sheraton Hotel Pulitzer? Any comments on the hotel? Thanks.

Going to AMS on friday, and staying at the Pulitzer as a gold.
Earlier this year, all I got was late checkout. Very firm on upgrades: wouldn't give me the "executive room", had to pay extra € for it.
It's a wonderful hotel. You're going to love it. Be sure to take the boat cruise.

My honey and I have traveled to some of the most incredible properties that Strwoods has to offer in Europe over the past 5 years. I can tell you this about being Platinum level, we have alwyas gotten upgraded to the best suites and had the most impecible service while at these locations:
Westin Florence
Danieli in Venice
Be sure when making your reservations that you make note in the comment section your elite status to ensure that they know what level you are.

There is a magnitude of difference between how Starwood treats Platinum and Gold members. It's like getting a Mercedes from Hertz versus getting a Toyoto. The OP will want to look specifically at those of us who have Gold status to have reasonable expectations about his stay.
