Starwood Preferred Guest - Starwood Amex sign up bonus

I'm preparing to apply for the Starwood AmEx card. I'm looking for the mst generous signup bonus.

I have an offer for 4000 points with 1st purchase; 1000 for first paid stay; 500 for each of next 10 stays; fee waived first year.

I'm just Gold, and given what I've read about dealing with Amex, I don't want to risk getting nothing at all, for using an offer that I'm not eligible for.
