Someone is selling these certificates on e-bay:

'Hertz Rental Certificate...applicable to the rental charges of a Hertz car at any location WORLDWIDE. Most importantly there are none of those dumb rules like, "only on weekends" or "only on our littlest car". Just a plain $25.00 off!

Here are the requirments:

renter must satisfy Hertz credit, age, rental and driver qualifications in effect at the time and place of the rental. This rental cert. will be honored at any hertz rental location up to the amount stated ($25.00). Charges in excess of that amount must be paid by acceptable means of payment. This certificate may not be redeemed in whole or in part for cash and shall be deemed fully redeemed once surrendered. The value of this cert. will be applied prior to discounts.

expriation date is 01/22/06'

My question - is anyone familiar with these certs? Are they exactly as they sound, $25 off any rate? Do they work in conjunction with other PC/CDP#'s? How did the seller end up with these coupons?

My guess is these are customer service coupons. They look like gift certificates but THERE is a PC # on the bottom. I've asked customer service if I can use these coupons with other 'regular' coupons but no answer.. kind of funny, I got a $100 in customer service coupons due to problems I had in nearly 48 hours after I wrote, but then when I wrote to ask how I can use them (ie can I combine them with each other or with other coupons) there was no response, weeks later.

So far I've not used them as I've used the free day / $20 / $25 coupons that are available on the Hertz offers page and I _know_ that the return agents could not figure out how to code two coupons at once, and I'd have to go the counter, and even then it's probably at best a 50/50 chance they have any idea what they are doing either... (and haven't had time to wait at a counter yet)

I agree with pitflyer that this is indeed a custom service certificate. You sometimes receive these when you lodge a complaint about your rental/experience. Note the emphasis on the word sometimes.

I'm holding a $50 cert. right now and on the back it clearly states "This certificate may be transferred. Cross out the name on the reverse side and fill in new name". Although I have a feeling that may change in the future if these things are showing up on Ebay.

I would guess that since this cert. has a PC # (1-series - meaning you have to present it to the agent at rental/return) you could not use another another coupon (PC) with it. Interestingly, I checked it using the FRDM RQ and it kept the FRDM rate but left the total the same meaning the return agent has to manually input the $$$ off amount off the FRDM rate. It's been my experience that whenever you try to add a PC on to the FRDM rate, it defaults back to the original rate. I'd be interested hearing others experience using these customer service certs.

I actually have had success using 2 PC codes on a reservation, one of them specifically said it was combinable with other discounts. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was one of these customer care certs ($50 for not having Neverlost available).

It was a little bit of a hassle, though. I think I had to do the reservation over the phone, and might have even had to see a customer service agent when I returned the car.

I used one successfully in MSY about 3 months ago. You do not have to refer to it at all in the initial reservation.

I booked a discount PC rate online via Hertz Gold and simply went inside at the rental return to give it to them -- instead of just letting the parking lot guy close me out -- and they took $25 off the total.

It worked like a credit and the balance went on my CC.

Thanks for the info/reply, DallasBill. I guess it makes sense that Hertz wouldn't prohibit the use of a regular coupon along with a customer service cert. they gave out for a bad rental experience. Good to know it can actually be done!

Kind of a moot point, as the three $25 Cust. Cert certificates were snagged w/in minutes from e-bay (buy it now option). Darn, I should have picked one up. Anyone have a spare one they'd like to donate/swap? :)
