We want to have a one day car rental from Florence to Siena. I've read some of the stories on here so want to make sure we're getting the best price and appropriate coverage. We don't have frequent flyer miles to use or be concerned about.

Should we get CDW for the total amt of the car (I think I saw that suggestion somewhere)?
Do we need to point out every mark on the car ahead of time, and can you do that or do you show up and just given a car?
Since we'll only be renting for several hours (just want to drive through Chianti countryside, is there any special one day surcharges to be aware of?
Is it better to rent through Continental (that's the airline we're flying on) or through another company?

I don't know what else to ask or what to be aware of. If you could give advise, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I'd be interested in the answers to all these questions too. I have a one day rental coming up next week.

As for rates, hertz.com quoted me 103 Euros for a one day (overnight) rental picking up in Vicenza and returning to MXP. That includes taxes and theft coverage, but after reading all the fine print I am still wondering if it includes any additional charges such as CDW?

As fa\r as I'm aware all Hertz rentals in Italy include CDW & Theft Protection as mandatory items, mainly as vehicle crime is so 'rife' in italy.

Hope this helps
