Hello. I am planning on taking around-the-world trip in September starting from NRT to AMS on Star Alliance. Since there is no direct flight between NRT/AMS, I should do either (i) LH via FRF or Munchen (ii) SAS via Copenhagen or (iii) ANA via CDG, LHR or FRF. I am interested in SAS this time simply because I have never flown on SAS. Do you recommend taking SAS, or should I go for other Star Alliance airlines? I will be flying Business Class.

Well on1208_jp, welcome to flyertalk.
You start your contributions with a difficult one. On the route to Europe out of Narita it is only AF who offer a night flight.
So sleeping will be tough. SK only has 50" pitch in C, so not sleeping means that wont matter so much. Th service on SK is quite good I think, so give it a try.

I would choose OS (via Vienna)and SK over LH. ANA is good if you like Japanese cuisine and customs. OS and SK's daytime service is far better than LH. OS's C cabin is smaller, which means more FAs per passenger than SK. OS gives each pax a gift in C.

Guys, thank you very much for your recommendations! Perhaps I should look into other threads but would appreciate very much if you have any recommendation for a nice hotel in Copenhagen (just for one night) with high-speed internet connection.

The SK business product on the A340 is quite nice IMHO. The pitch is not so great at 50" but I am over 2m in height and didn't find it a big issue. The video is not on-demand, but the screen was relatively large and the seat has electronic controls. I like the food service on SAS as well. And the toilet is larger than most others I've used and has a window. Finally, no worries about middle seats in business as the layout is 2-2-2.
Also I find changing planes as CPH very quick and easy compared to LHR and Frankfurt.
For a hotel I like the Hilton at(next to) the airport. Just opened about 2 or 3 years ago as I recall. Quite nice public areas and rooms and you can take the train into the city from there very easily. The airport, train statation and hotel are all connected by an enclosed walkway.

Thanks for the reply. I love these forums as everyone provides "serious" advice. I looked into the Airport Hilton but was quite expensive compared to other hotels in the city; I'll keep looking :) Thanx

Try this one www.woco.dk, try hotels in Tivoli/Central Station area, and you might find some good deals. Hotels there are also very easy to reach from the airport train.

Flying from TYO to Europe in Business Class and having a choice, I'd DEFINITELY go for Austrian, although LH was cheaper this summer whenever I checked.

Just flown NRT/CPH on SK984. Thanks for all your advice. It was my first time on SAS and I found it to be very nice. The business class was about 90% full but the service/meals were excellent. Often what's printed on the menu turns out to be different from what you thought you'd get, but SAS had the wagon service and you can actually pick and choose what you would like to eat. The wines were not fancy but were good. I sat on the middle aisle on 2-2-2 configuration which meant the passenger sitting next to me was also on aisle which I found quite comfortable. On-time departure from NRT and 30 min early arrival to CPH. Thanks again.
