I'm very frustrated not being able to access my webmail during the day.

I know, I know, company owns the network.

ScottC?

Simple answer: no.

You could try passing through a proxy but 99% of the time it will block that as well.

It isn't the worlds best content protection package for nothing :D

Didn't think so. I guess I have to do all my personal stuff at home now. :p

...like looking for bargain real estate in San Diego.

one way would be to auto-forward mail from that account to your work email??

Do they block all ports at their firewall?

When I'm at client sites, I use ssh to get to my Linux box at home (they often block only FTP, HTTP and HTTPS and leave everything else open from inside the firewall), which also runs squid[1]. Ssh is configured to forward local http requests to my linux box, my browser proxy configuration points to localhost, and this combo lets me surf any site I want.

Getting this all set up isn't for the casual user, but this stuff is part of what I do for a living anyway . . .

Sure it can be done - I do it at my client site in emergencies. But it involved some complex server software, proxies, redirectors, etc., on my home machine - not for the timid.

And involves system admins that don't pay attention to weird traffic ;)

Any active websense admin will always have an eye on stuff like this :D

Probably true - my current client doesn't have the most sophisticated IT staff I have seen. I suppose that's when my team is there...

YMMV

Will they unblock it if they are asked? I would unblock mail sites for people, they just may be going by the defaults. I don't think checking home e-mails is the reason I would depoly websense, I would allow that category of services.

Agreed, but many IT staff feel like the BOFH when it comes to Websense.
