Well gee, why is LaGuardia jammed up so badly? Because airlines like CONTINENTAL have added flights to protect share of gates and slots there against more competition. So now they want to transfer people stuck in that mess to Newark. Isn't that like punching the hull and then selling tickets to the lifeboats?

That's interesting. You can get 500 status miles for riding a bus for 90 minutes.

Considering that LGA has historically had a delay problem, and that CO didn't actually start to fly most of their announced service, they are only a very minor cause of the current LGA mess.

Of course, I wouldn't want this serious reply to detract from the comic genious of the original post...

Continental Airlines is the fifth largest airline in the U.S., offering more than 2,400 departures daily to 138 domestic and 92 international destinations. With hubs in Newark, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, Continental (www.continental.com) serves more international cities than any other U.S. carrier, including extensive service throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.

SOURCE: My imagination

First off, UA is the largest airline in the US, with 2400 flights. CO is the 5th, so they can't have over 2000 flights! That's what I first picked up on.

Then, for those of yuo who complained about runway delays, the article says its a bus, so there is no extra runway waiting time.

Any lastly, look at the source.

Did you all pass the English SAT's? LOL

Sorry, UALover7, you're wrong. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif The language which you referenced comes straight off of a real CO press release. And here's what I just copied from a real UA press release:

"United Airlines offers nearly 2,300 flights a day to 134 destinations in 27 countries and two U.S. territories."

I think the discrepancy may be attributed to the fact that CO Express is a wholly-owned sub of CO so CO may be including Express stats. If that's the case, which I suspect it is, CO Exp flies to quite a few cities in Mexico using 50-seat ERJs.

Also, UA's fleet is much larger than CO's so they can accommodate a lot more pax.

So while the language CO uses in their press releases is accurate, it's no indication of how they compare to other carriers.

One of the networks (ABC, I think) had a story last week about the LGA situation. It has the worst delay statistics in the country, and they pointed out how the incumbent airlines had added flights and were protective of gates, slots, etc. Continental is not the only one and not the biggest, but isn't helping any. From Atlanta (a major destination to/from LGA) CO and NW have recently done LGA-only spot specials ($96 and $136 respectively) to fill the extra seats. Not valid for EWR or JFK. Maybe nice if you're a leisure traveler with extra time, but doubtful if you're a business traveler with a connecting flight and a tight schedule.
