I just posted this in the AirTran Forum and then realized that many of you may not frequent it, hence the double posting:
I don't know who the con artist is -- AirTran or Hertz, but do not accept their current joint offer.
I received an AirTran e-mail today saying, "Now through December 31, 2004, you can receive a Free Upgrade from Hertz every time you rent a Compact (Class B) through Full-size (Class F) car, with a maximum upgrade to a Premium (Class G) car, at participating airport and suburban locations in the U.S. and Canada. This offer is valid on all qualifying Leisure Rate rentals of two or more days."
The same offer appears on the AirTran site.
Wonderful! I am going to be renting a car in FLL in November for 5 days and clicked through. The website told me to use the AirTran CDP Number 1259680 and Promotional Coupon (PC) #949115.
I did and was quoted $673.75 for a five day rental for a compact car.
I then tried without the Promotion Coupon (same CDP, same rental details) and got a price of $227.73.
In other words, for a price difference of $446.02 I was being given a "free" upgrade. Or, to be more accurate, I was being given the possibility of an upgrade because at the bottom of the website it says, "Upgrade is subject to larger car availability at time of pick up."
